Thousands of Second Amendment supporters carrying long firearms and wearing stickers reading โ€œGuns Save Lives" descended upon Virginia's Capitol in Richmond Monday for a widely publicized rally to protest a recent push by state Democrats for comprehensive gun control. The rally comes as the city has been on high alert for days following threats of violence, leading to road closures as well as a ban on firearms in the Capitol and on its grounds. Yet as of midday Monday, the demonstrations were peaceful. "If they can come for your guns in Virginia, they can come for them in West Virginia,โ€ demonstrator Annette Parker told Fox News, noting that she drove six hours to get to the event. The throngs who gathered in Richmond Monday were heard in large groups reciting the Second Amendment in unison, while others broke out in chants of "we will not comply!"
In a state well-known for its competitive political races and heated debates, one issue that continues to be fiercely discussed in Florida is that of gun control and 2nd Amendment rights. To some, like Carey Baker, the 2nd Amendment is something worth passionately defending, FOX News reported. "It applies just as much today as it did over 200 years ago," Baker said. By Baker's own admission, he's a bit biased. He co-owns A.W. Peterson Gun Shop in Mount Dora, Fla., which has been in business since the 19th century. But in the wake of tragedies such as the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., where 17 people were killed, there are some in Florida seeking to regulate aspects of the 2nd amendment with the same vigor that Baker uses to defend it. A growing number of cities in Florida are suing the state to challenge a 2011 amendment that inflicts steep penalties on local governments that choose to pass gun-regulating ordinances.

China has confirmed the new SARS-like virus that has killed three people has spread between humans. The country's National Health Commission team said 14 healthcare workers had caught the respiratory virus while treating patients. Two patients in southern China also caught the virus from infected family members, according to local media. They had not visited Wuhan city, where the outbreak is centred and where it was believed to have come from an animal source at a seafood market. Huanan Wholesale Seafood Market in Wuhan city has been under investigation since January 1 as scientists scramble to determine where the virus has come from. A total of 222 people in Asia have now tested positive for the virus, which marks a sharp increase from the 48 on January 17. Three other countries have also reported cases of the virus - Thailand, Japan and South Korea. All four patients had visited Wuhan, home to 11million people. Some 3,300 people fly out of the city's airport every day. โ˜ ๏ธ

An off-duty New Jersey police officer and new father took his own life by shooting himself in the head after being involved in a serious crash over the weekend. According to officials, Roselle Park police patrolman Edward Nortrup, 39, committed suicide inside his mangled SUV in Matawan on Sunday while firefighters were getting equipment from their vehicle to extract him. The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office wrote in a press release that Nortrup was driving along Broad Street at around noon when he appeared to have lost control of his black Nissan SUV and careened into two parked cars. His SUV then partially rolled over before coming to a stop, reported Patch com. As first responders on the scene left Nortrup's vehicle to go get tools needed to free him, the prosecutor said the officer got a hold of a firearm and shot himself in the head. It remains unclear at this time what might have driven the 13-year veteran and married father-of-one to commit suicide.๐Ÿ—ฟ#RIP
