An Indiana homeowner on a recent afternoon scared away two men who tried to gain entry into his home after singing Christmas carols outside, a report on Monday said. The incident occurred in Fort Wayne, according to the local NBC affiliate. The men reportedly tried kicking down the door but were thwarted by the shots. "They heard the doorbell ring,” one neighbor told the station. “They heard what appeared to be pounding on the door, and then they saw the door being kicked in or attempted to be kicked in. And that's when this individual fired his weapon into the door or the door area.”

Agents searched the contents of the truck and found 11 Chinese nationals packed inside pieces of furniture and appliances. As many as six people may be dead — including a police officer, two suspects and three civilians — during an "ambush" active shooter situation at a store in Jersey City Tuesday afternoon, officials and law enforcement sources said. Law enforcement sources identified the dead officer as a 39-year-old married father of five, Det. Joseph Seals. Seals, was a veteran police officer of over 15 years, and was with the Jersey City Police Department since 2006, officials said at a press conference Tuesday evening outside Jersey City Medical Center. He was a detective with the Cease Fire Unit, Police Chief Michael Kelly said. Kelly said Seals was the department's leading police officer in removing guns from Jersey City streets. At least one wounded civilian, along with two wounded officers, are expected to survive, officials said.
