A Babylonian retelling of Noah and the Ark on a 3,000-year-old clay tablet could be one of the oldest example of #fake_news, a Cambridge academic has claimed. In the engraved scripture, Ea the Babylonian god appears to suggest to Noah that he tell his helpers 'food will rain from the skies' if they help build the ark. However, Dr Martin Worthington, a leading expert on the Babylonian language, claims that the words have a double meaning. Dr Worthington discovered the trickery on the 11th tablet of Gilgamesh, dating back to 700BC, which gives the Babylonian account of the flood. Translated the cuneiform script 'ina lilâti ušaznanakkunūši šamūt kibāti' reads along the lines of 'at dawn there will be kukku cakes', but can equally mean 'at dawn, he will rain down upon you darkness', reports The Telegraph. While another line promises 'he will rain down on you abundance' or less appealingly 'he will rain down on you abundantly'.
Spanish police on Tuesday refloated a submarine that was intercepted with a cargo suspected to be about 7500 lb of cocaine, a security source told @police_frequency in the Telegram. Two Ecuador nationals were detained and another person escaped from the vessel in waters off the northwestern region of Galicia at the weekend, the source said. Investigators believe that the crew had attempted to sink the submarine and the drugs it had on board. Police refloated the vessel with the use of divers and balloons. It was later transported to a port in Cangas, in Pontevedra province.👮🏻‍♂️

The Chicago Police Department announced this week that it has seized more than 10,000 guns so far this year – an average of one gun every 48 minutes – an uptick from one gun-per-hour the previous year, according to CPD. “I’m immensely proud of CPD for taking 10,000 guns off the streets this year,” Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said. “We really need systematic change to prevent these guns from ever finding their way into the city.” CPD typically recovers around 7,000 guns a year, but 2019 and 2018 saw substantial spikes, with officers seizing about 9,800 guns last year. Johnson said CPD routinely recovers more guns than New York and Los Angeles because the states surrounding those cities have stricter gun laws in comparison to Illinois’ bordering states. 👮🏻‍♂️
