Emmanuel Macron has blasted 'brain dead' NATO and warned that Europe can no longer rely on America to defend its allies. 'I'd argue that we should reassess the reality of what NATO is in the light of the commitment of the United States,' the French president told The Economist at the Elysee Palace. 'You have no coordination whatsoever of strategic decision-making between the United States and its NATO allies. None. You have an uncoordinated aggressive action by another NATO ally, Turkey, in an area where our interests are at stake.' Asked whether he still believed in Article Five of NATO's founding treaty - under which an attack against one is considered an attack against all - Macron answered: 'I don't know ... what will Article Five mean tomorrow?' #facepalm

A Bolivian mayor has been doused in red paint and had her hair hacked off by protesters who blamed her for the deaths of two opposition protesters. Patricia Arce, of the governing Mas party, was dragged out of Vinto town hall and subjected to four hours of degradation in which she was made to kneel and sign her resignation. Young men carrying batons and wearing masks chanted, 'Murderess, murderess,' as they marched Arce to a platform where they cut her hair before the baying mob. Bolivia has been gripped by deadly protests following President Evo Morales' election victory on October 20 over claims it was rigged.

An atheist group has complained about new decals on a Florida county's patrol cars that feature an American flag and the phrase "In God We Trust." The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) argues the new "patriotic" decal, suggested by a local military veteran, is "frightening and politically dubious" in a letter to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, but Sheriff Wayne Ivey isn't backing down. ”They have a better chance of me waking up thin tomorrow morning than they do of me taking that motto off our cars!" Ivey told Fox News. “I personally believe that our country is at a tipping point, and if we, as strong patriotic Americans, don’t stand for the principals of our great nation, we are going to lose the America we all know and love!" 👮🏻‍♂️

Meanwhile in Santiago, Chile. Protesters were seen hurling stones at police which, in turn, responded with tear gas and deploy a water cannon, with one protester seen being arrested and put into a police vehicle.
Las Vegas officials passed a law Wednesday making it a crime for homeless people to sleep on streets or sidewalks when beds are available at city-sanctioned shelters, reported Fox News. The 5-2 council vote came after a day of drama that included Mayor Carolyn Goodman throwing out several audience members whom she deemed disruptive. Most of the people who showed up to the meeting spoke against the measure, which applied to Las Vegas' downtown urban core but not the tourist-heavy Las Vegas Strip, overseen by a different jurisdiction. Before the 9-hour meeting, about 100 people rallied, chanting, "The war on the poor has got to go." Goodman, the sponsor of the proposal, called the new law imperfect but said it was necessary to deal with the city's growing homeless crisis.

A retired Massachusetts detective fatally shot his wife in the head and then staged her murder as a suicide - so he could be with his lover and retain his pension, according to prosecutors. Brian Fanion, formerly with the Westfield Police Department, is charged in the May 2018 killing of his wife Amy Fanion. The 55-year-old former detective is said to have Googled household poisons, gunshot residue and ways to keep a pension amid a divorce in the days leading up to his wife murder. Fanion's lawyer, Jeffrey Brown, claims that his client never had an affair and that Amy was suffering from anxiety.
