Dear Governor,
Just over 12 years ago, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputy Danny Oliver and Placer County Sheriff’s Detective Michael Davis Jr. were brutally executed by Luis Bracamontes. Bracamontes was a convicted drug dealer in the midst of a crime spree with his girlfriend when he opened fire on Danny as he approached his vehicle. Bracamontes fled, carjacked several vehicles, shot a civilian before fatally shooting Detective Michael Davis Jr. with a rifle and seriously wounding Davis’ partner, Deputy Jeff Davis.
I went to that crime scene and remember every detail vividly. I also remember watching Bracamontes laugh in court while their families, including Danny’s two young daughters, had to sit and watch. Bracamontes was convicted of murder by a jury of his peers, who then sentenced him to death.
Deputy Danny Oliver and Detective Michael Davis Jr. should be alive today, enjoying long and healthy lives with their families. Instead, the man who murdered them has now escaped his sentence.
Governor, I urge you to reconsider any proposal to commute the death sentences of all 548 people on death row, especially that of Luis Bracamontes. This isn’t just about the death penalty. It’s about accountability, honoring the decisions of juries, respecting the will of California voters, and standing with the families of victims who have already suffered unimaginable loss.

SHERIFF ORDERED OUT OF OFFICE AFTER JURY VERDICT.
A Coal County, Oklahoma jury found the suspended Sheriff guilty of oppression in office Wednesday. Judge Emily Maxwell ordered his immediate removal. The removal case included allegations of repeated inappropriate conduct and sexual comments toward two female employees. A grand jury petition reported that he grabbed one employee by the neck and pulled her hair during work hours. The three-day trial came nearly a year after Oklahoma’s multi-county grand jury recommended his removal. He testified in his own defense, acknowledging, “I made bad decisions.” Prosecutor James Green told jurors that Coal County deserves a sheriff who protects and serves its citizens. What does accountability in law enforcement leadership mean to you?

You wanna know who Gavin Newsom just commuted on California’s death row?
Lemme tell you…
Richard Allen Davis, who broke into a 12-year-old’s house during a slumber party, kidnapped Polly Klaas at knifepoint, raped her, and strangled her.
Isauro Aguirre, who spent months torturing 8-year-old Gabriel Fernandez, beating him, shooting him with a BB gun, forcing him to eat cat feces, and locking him in a cabinet before ultimately beating him to death.
Alejandro Avila, who snatched 5-year-old Samantha Runnion off the street, raped her, and murdered her.
Cary Stayner, the Yosemite handyman who murdered three women and a teenage girl in 1999, including beheading one of his victims.
Charles Ng, convicted of killing 11 people, including men, women, and two infants, alongside Leonard Lake in the 1980s.
Lonnie Franklin Jr., the “Grim Sleeper,” convicted of murdering multiple women in Los Angeles over several decades. Investigators believe the actual body count is higher.
Scott Peterson, who murdered his pregnant wife, Laci Peterson, and their unborn son in 2002, dumping her body in the San Francisco Bay.
Wayne Adam Ford, the truck driver who strangled and dismembered at least four women before showing up at a sheriff’s station with a severed breast in his pocket.
Joseph Naso, the “Alphabet Killer,” convicted of murdering four women with matching initials between 1977 and 1994.
Christopher Cheary, convicted of raping, torturing, and murdering his girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter, Sophia Acosta.
And these are just some of the inmates.
Newsom called this a “righteous action.”
Righteous for whom? Because I guarantee you the victims’ families don’t see it that way.
