“Today the FBI and our partners executed 8 arrests, with 7 additional defendants charged, after the subjects involved allegedly orchestrated a multi-year healthcare fraud scheme resulting in $1.8 billion in losses,” said FBI Director Kash Patel. “The defendants - including medical professionals - made fraudulent claims to steal from taxpayer funded healthcare and insurance programs, including substance abuse treatment programs, hospice care, and Medicare programs in the Los Angeles area designed to help the most vulnerable. Over the last six months, COMET detectives have been investigating a drug trafficking organization operating in the Metro Detroit area.
 
On October 20, 2026, COMET executed multiple search warrants in Detroit and the City of Troy, resulting in the following seizures:
 
2,047 grams of fentanyl
 
513 grams of cocaine/crack
 
46 grams of scheduled prescription pills
 
Over $4,000 in currency with intent to forfeit
 
Multiple suspects arrested
 
COMET was assisted by Hamtramck PD, Oakland County NET, and MSP 2nd District Headquarters.

WATCH: Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel publicly criticized District Attorney Larry Krasner Thursday, calling his recent comments about accused cop killer Eric Lewis’ previous murder acquittal “absolutely unacceptable.”

Lewis, 35, is accused of fatally shooting Philadelphia Police Officer Shane Seiber, 40, and critically wounding Officer Hector Rodriguez III on October 10.

During a federal news conference, Bethel condemned Krasner’s decision to publicly criticize officers involved in Lewis’ earlier murder investigation while the department was grieving Seiber’s death.
