OFFICIAL UPDATE FROM SHERIFF JACKIE ROGERS
This is an extremely serious and difficult situation for the Lenoir County Sheriffโs Office and our entire community.
Earlier today, two of our deputies were shot while responding to an incident in the 700 block of Jonestown Road in Deep Run.
The suspect has been identified as Cecil James Langston, 58, of Deep Run. Langston is deceased at the scene.
The two deputies injured in the shooting are Captain Jovanni Villagra and Sergeant Cole Davis. Both deputies sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving treatment at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville. I am thankful to report that both deputies are in stable condition.
My first concern is, and will continue to be, the safety and well-being of Captain Villagra and Sergeant Davis. I have spoken with members of their families, and our Sheriffโs Office family is standing together with them during this difficult time.
I also want to recognize the courage and professionalism of the deputies, officers and first responders who immediately responded to this dangerous situation. Their actions reflect the commitment our men and women in law enforcement make every day to protect the people of Lenoir County.
We ask that everyone respect the privacy of the deputies and their families as they receive medical treatment and begin the recovery process.
Please keep Captain Villagra, Sergeant Davis, their families, and all of our Lenoir County Sheriffโs Office personnel in your prayers.๐๐ป

โBut the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them. NEW: On August 11 at approximately 2:48 a.m., Edgar Duarte was operating a moped when he ran a red light and entered an intersection, nearly causing a crash with Officer B. Morillon, who had the green light.
Duarte continued to rack up charges when he refused to stop for Officer Morillon and attempted to flee. His getaway came to an end when his moped met its match, a trash can and a mailbox.
Duarte then tried his luck on foot, where the trash can attempted to assist officers once again but unfortunately failed.
No worries, though. K9 Gambit was there to support. Gambit quickly caught up with Duarte, and he was taken into custody.
As a reminder, mopeds are still subject to Georgia traffic laws. Riders must be at least 15 years old and have a valid driverโs license, instructional permit or limited permit. A DOT approved motorcycle helmet is required, and moped operators must follow the same traffic laws as other drivers, including obeying traffic signals.

A Biden-appointed federal judge ruled that Congress has no authority to bar noncitizens from voting in federal elections, tossing out charges against a woman originally from Jamaica who voted in the 2020 presidential election despite not being a U.S. citizen.
U.S. District Judge David Leibowitz dismissed the case against Chelsea Cox, declaring the 1996 federal law criminalizing noncitizen voting unconstitutional. His reasoning: the Constitution gives states โ not Congress โ the power to set voter qualifications.

If Democrats were in control of Congress and Presidency, a partisan, ridiculous judge appointed by a Republican would have been impeached long ago. But do-nothing Republicans prefer whining a lot, doing nothing and taking lots of vacations.
