NEW: Homeowners rebuilding after the Palisades Fire say they’re getting hit again, this time by thieves targeting construction sites.

Residents say tools, building materials and copper are disappearing from properties, forcing some homeowners to hire private security. One security company says its customer base in the area has nearly tripled since the fire.

LAPD says it responded to a spike in thefts earlier this summer with undercover officers and increased traffic stops, helping drive crime back down.

But frustrated neighbors say they still have serious questions about the city's response, and Mayor Karen Bass' office did not directly address their concerns.

Help keep students safe by remembering these simple rules:

*Stand back: Wait at least 6 feet (three giant steps) back from the curb while waiting for the bus.
*Wait for the signal: Wait until the bus stops completely and the driver signals it is safe to approach or cross.
*Cross in front: Always cross at least 10 feet in front of the bus so the driver can see you.
*Stay seated: Remain seated and keep hands and head inside the bus while it moves.

A large number of law enforcement officers joined friends and family at Saturday's funeral for Claiborne County Deputy Terrian Bailey.

Bailey, 45, was responding early on Labor Day, Sept. 7, to a large crowd outside Michael Dean’s Convenience Store in Hermanville following the Hermanville Day Festival when gunfire erupted. Deputies were working to disperse the crowd when Bailey was struck by a bullet. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

A procession of law enforcement officers escorted the hearse Saturday morning from Port Gibson to Lorman, was held at Alcorn State University. Following the service, Bailey will be laid to rest at McCaa Cemetery on China Grove Church Road in Lorman.

Operation Lone Star is in full effect. In Dimmit County, TxDPS Tracking K-9 Bona & her handler tracked a group of illegal immigrants over 3 miles on a private ranch. Due to extreme heat, DPS Border Mounted Patrol took over and completed the track, leading to their apprehension. Great teamwork!
