βMy little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for our's only, but also for the sins of the whole world. And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.β

Today, our communities are grieving following two separate tragedies that claimed multiple lives, including the lives of NBCLA personnel in a devastating helicopter accident.
I extend my deepest condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of all those who tragically lost their lives. My heart is also with the colleagues of the NBC4 team and everyone impacted by these heartbreaking events.
On behalf of the Los Angeles County Sheriffβs Department, we stand with the families, loved ones, and communities affected by these tragedies as they mourn these profound losses. May they find strength and comfort in one another and in support of their friends, colleagues, and community during the difficult days ahead.

A man accused of m*rder can't be charged because prosecutors MISSED A DEADLINE. Austin police accused Peter Perius of k*lling 36-year-old Natalie Renee Pearce, leaving her body under a tarp for two days and then hiding her remains beneath a backyard burn pit.
Perius was arrested for MURDER and held on a $500,000 bond.
Then the case sat long enough for the Travis County District Attorney's Office to miss the required indictment deadline, and a judge dismissed the m*rder charge.
Perius eventually pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence involving a human corpse and received 10 years, with 766 days of credit already applied toward the sentence.
There was never a m*rder trial.
Whatever a jury ultimately might have decided, Natalie Pearce and her family deserved to have the allegation prosecuted competently enough to GET TO A JURY.
Instead, one of the most serious charges imaginable disappeared because prosecutors failed to meet a deadline.
Absolutely unbelievable.
