BREAKING: California gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton was reportedly rushed away from an event in East Los Angeles a short time ago following some type of confrontation.

Details remain limited, but witnesses reportedly described a confrontation involving individuals believed to be supporters of rival candidate Xavier Becerra.

The exact circumstances remain unclear.

Officers walk into uncertain situations every day knowing danger can come without warning. This morning, a Greenville County deputy was shot while doing that job. We are thankful he is expected to make a full recovery.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said that around 3:40 a.m., a shooting with a suspicious person took place at Page Drive and White Horse Road.

According to SLED, a deputy encountered a man with a gun who pointed it at the deputy in the patrol car. Smith ran into a nearby field after an exchange of gunfire.

A second deputy arrived at the scene before another exchange of gunfire occurred. A deputy was shot in the shoulder, and Smith was shot in the leg.

Officials said that the deputy was taken to the hospital, where he is expected to make a full recovery. Smith was apprehended and taken to the hospital for treatment. He will be booked into the Greenville County Detention Center when he is discharged.

In a post this week about the maze, Goebel Farms said “Our 2026 corn maze honors Charlie Kirk and his belief that disagreement should lead to conversation—not division or violence. We hope it encourages people to listen, ask questions, and keep talking, even when we disagree.”
