Harris County CAUGHT A PREDATOR: A Texas man allegedly thought he was arranging to meet a CHILD. Instead, he walked straight into an undercover law-enforcement operation.
Harris County investigators say Maximiano Torres began communicating online on August 18 with someone he believed was a juvenile.
What he did not know was that he was actually talking to an undercover investigator with Harris County Constable Mark Herman's Precinct 4 Office.
Authorities say Torres then traveled to a location in north Harris County expecting to meet the child, where investigators were waiting to arrest him.
He is now charged with online solicitation of a minor, and his bond was set at $80,000.
THIS is why proactive operations like this matter. Investigators were able to step in before an actual child was put in danger and intercept someone they allege was actively trying to arrange a sexual encounter with a minor.
Make sure these investigators get the recognition they deserve. This is exactly the kind of police work that protects children before it's too late.

CHAUVIN ISN'T DONE: Derek Chauvin has filed his THIRD attempt to overturn his murder conviction in the George Floyd case, and his lawyers are now attacking the legitimacy of the prosecution itself.
His attorneys want the conviction vacated and the charges dismissed. They argue Gov. Tim Walz improperly handed the prosecution to Attorney General Keith Ellison, that Chauvin was never indicted by a grand jury and that those alleged violations deprived the court of jurisdiction.
Chauvin's case is back in the national conversation after Elon Musk publicly called Chauvin βunjustly convictedβ and said βhe is not a murderer.β
Chauvin's third challenge is officially underway. Watch this one closely.

NEW: A group of masked thieves was caught on surveillance video stealing a restored 1965 Chevrolet Impala from a La Puente body shop. The group broke a lock, opened the shop's gate and rolled the Impala out of the lot and onto the street. The thieves then used a two-wheel dolly to take the car.
"We're very scared right now. We don't know if we might get hit again," shop owner Giovanni Robles said.

When a fisherman from Astor collapsed during a medical emergency early this morning on a pontoon boat on Lake Woodruff, the team from 911, Air One, patrol, EMS, and a Good Samaritan with a boat did everything they could to save him.
After a frantic 911 call came in at 6:45 a.m., a VSO dispatcher gave the caller CPR instructions as Air One took off, flew over and spotted the boat. Flight Paramedic Matt Brunelle jumped from the helicopter into the lake and was first on scene.
On land, patrol deputies met a man with his own boat who agreed to take them over to help. Air One guided them to the pontoon, and they climbed on board to continue CPR while Brunelle drove toward land to meet an ambulance.
EMS personnel arrived on the water next and took over life-saving measures until arrival back on shore for transport to the hospital.
Despite extensive efforts, sadly the 56-year-old was not able to recover. We were hoping to deliver the good news that his life was saved. Instead, we are sending sincere condolences to this man's family, friends and loved ones. It's not the outcome we hoped for, but everyone involved in this call gave their best to give him a chance.
