There are so many people and organizations that the Polk County Sheriff’s Office would like to acknowledge and thank for their part in getting our K9 Ace the help he needed after he was shot by a suspect on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

Immediately after he was wounded, Ace was taken to Parkway Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Lakeland where his bleeding was stopped and he was stabilized by Dr. Oscar Aguayo and his team.

Once stabilized, Ace was picked up by Tampa General Hospital’s Aeromed helicopter with pilot Chad Loftin (Metro Aviation), Chief Flight Nurse Tracy Sanderson (TGH), and Flight Paramedic Kenny Switzer (TGH).

Aeromed transported Ace to Veterinary Medical Center at Lakewood Ranch in Bradenton to be cared for by Dr. Devon Diaz and his team.

Ace is a 7-year-old German Shepherd. He has been with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office since March of 2020.

🇺🇸 AMERICA FIRST: President Trump signed TWO executive orders targeting foreign nationals who travel to the United States to give birth and obtain citizenship for their children.

Trump cited alleged cases involving one man connected to 56 children and another connected to 98.

The orders direct federal agencies to target birth tourism operations and attempt to narrow who qualifies for automatic citizenship.

The Supreme Court blocked Trump’s broader birthright citizenship order, so another major legal fight is coming.

Citizenship should NEVER be sold as part of a travel package.

The Appomattox County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of one of its own after he was killed in the line of duty on Thursday.

The sheriff's office announced on Friday, August 7, that 33-year-old Deputy Burlie W. Duvall III was tragically killed while assisting at the scene of a crash.

The eight-vehicle chain-reaction crash happened around 5:30 p.m. on August 6 on Route 460 in Campbell County, near Cabin Field Road.

VSP said their vehicles were positioned in the two left lanes with emergency equipment activated. A tractor-trailer approaching the crash scene swerved to avoid the vehicles and struck Deputy Duvall. He died at the scene.

"Deputy Duvall's sacrifice will never be forgotten," the office wrote. "His service, dedication, and commitment to the citizens of Appomattox County will forever remain a part of the legacy of this sheriff's office."

Close Call for a Trooper Leads to a Drunk Driving Arrest

ROSCOMMON COUNTY, MI. Kyle Roginson, 41, was arrested following a traffic stop on M-55 near Old 27 in Roscommon Township on August 4.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Houghton Lake Post responded to US‑127 near Snowbowl Road for a report of a reckless driver. The preliminary investigation indicated that Roginson struck a kayak being hauled by another vehicle and continued driving without stopping to report the crash.

While traveling south on Harrison Road, troopers observed the suspect vehicle traveling north in the southbound lane, heading directly toward them. Troopers accelerated and maneuvered around the vehicle to avoid a collision. As the suspect vehicle continued south on Harrison Road, troopers observed three vehicles pulled over to avoid being struck.
