When Fauci was subpoenaed to testify, he repeatedly invoked the Fifth Amendment instead of answering those questions.
Chairman Rand Paul has now sent the contempt referral to the Justice Department.
Fauci’s attorney says he lawfully exercised his constitutional rights. Whether the committee can proceed without a full Senate vote may also be challenged.

Commissioners Court voted Thursday 4-1 to increase the constables' salaries to $305,000, the fourth in a series of raises that have more than doubled their pay in just three years.
The constables have significant political power, in part because they are immensely popular with the many neighborhoods they patrol on dedicated contracts, and they have influence in the Texas Legislature.

Praying for the K9 officer who was shot in the line of duty this afternoon.🙏🏻 Investigation ongoing following a deputy-involved shooting in the Kathleen area. A Polk County Sheriff's K9 was shot and injured and he is being treated at an emergency vet clinic…
There are so many people and organizations that the Polk County Sheriff’s Office would like to acknowledge and thank for their part in getting our K9 Ace the help he needed after he was shot by a suspect on Thursday, August 6, 2026.
Immediately after he was wounded, Ace was taken to Parkway Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Lakeland where his bleeding was stopped and he was stabilized by Dr. Oscar Aguayo and his team.
Once stabilized, Ace was picked up by Tampa General Hospital’s Aeromed helicopter with pilot Chad Loftin (Metro Aviation), Chief Flight Nurse Tracy Sanderson (TGH), and Flight Paramedic Kenny Switzer (TGH).
Aeromed transported Ace to Veterinary Medical Center at Lakewood Ranch in Bradenton to be cared for by Dr. Devon Diaz and his team.
Ace is a 7-year-old German Shepherd. He has been with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office since March of 2020.

On the evening of May 25, 1911, LAPD Patrolman Arthur Crusey spotted a male attempting to steal a bicycle from a closed pawnshop on North Main Street around 10:00 P.M. When Crusey ordered him to stop, the suspect fled, and a chase involving a shootout followed. During the pursuit, the suspect shot Patrolman Crusey, fatally injuring him.
The commotion attracted nearby bystanders, including off-duty Deputy Sheriff Arthur J. Solomon. Believing the suspect had run out of ammunition, Solomon picked up Crusey's service revolver, reloaded it, and continued the pursuit. When Solomon caught up with the suspect, he had either reloaded or had a second gun and shot Deputy Solomon, seriously injuring the deputy before escaping. The suspect was later caught by LAPD and identified as John Crossley, a parolee from San Quentin Prison. He was later sentenced to life in prison.

The Appomattox County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of one of its own after he was killed in the line of duty on Thursday.
The sheriff's office announced on Friday, August 7, that 33-year-old Deputy Burlie W. Duvall III was tragically killed while assisting at the scene of a crash.
The eight-vehicle chain-reaction crash happened around 5:30 p.m. on August 6 on Route 460 in Campbell County, near Cabin Field Road.
VSP said their vehicles were positioned in the two left lanes with emergency equipment activated. A tractor-trailer approaching the crash scene swerved to avoid the vehicles and struck Deputy Duvall. He died at the scene.
"Deputy Duvall's sacrifice will never be forgotten," the office wrote. "His service, dedication, and commitment to the citizens of Appomattox County will forever remain a part of the legacy of this sheriff's office."
