MUST WATCH: Mayor Mamdani booed, jeered at Staten Island’s National Night Out.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani received a decidedly chilly reception from some Staten Islanders Tuesday night, drawing loud boos, jeers and profanities when he appeared at the borough’s annual National Night Out Against Crime celebration in Midland Beach.

Mamdani arrived late in the evening as more than 3,500 residents and families gathered at Turtle Circle on the Midland Beach Boardwalk for the 43rd annual NYPD Patrol Borough Staten Island National Night Out Against Crime.

As the mayor made his way to the stage, sections of the crowd erupted in boos, with some attendees shouting for him to leave. Despite the hostile response, Mamdani delivered a brief greeting.

The Marshall Fire Texas Department sadly announced the death of retired Assistant Fire Chief Beva “Bear Track” Ellis.

In a social media post, the department said it is mourning the loss of Ellis and honoring what it described as his legacy of dedicated service to the Marshall community.

The department said Ellis devoted his career to serving the community and left a lasting impact through his work with the fire department.

“Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and all who knew him,” the department said.

BREAKING UPDATE: On August 5, 2026, a San Bernardino County Sheriff's detective was shot while investigating in Littlerock's Antelope Valley and airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital.

Authorities responded to the 13000 block of East Avenue R after 3 p.m., with unconfirmed reports indicating one suspect was down while another remains at large. Officials have cordoned off the scene near two structures, though the deputy's condition and specific circumstances of the shooting remain unclear.
