A retired NYPD detective sergeant is mourning the unimaginable loss of his 12-year-old son.

Jacob Freytes was riding his bicycle near his Bronx home when a fight outside a bodega escalated into gunfire. Police say the child was an innocent bystander struck by a stray bullet.

Officers have arrested a 45-year-old suspect on charges including second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter.

As Commissioner Jessica Tisch said, an arrest cannot erase this family’s pain—but the NYPD will continue seeking justice for Jacob.

Randy Paul Ruiz, 28, of East Los Angeles, pleaded guilty today to 18 U.S.C. 111 for obstructing, impeding, or interfering with law enforcement during civil disorder, a felony carrying a maximum of five years in federal prison.

On June 8, 2025, two days after a wave of violence against law enforcement began, LAPD officers were stationed outside the Roybal Federal Building in Downtown L.A. to protect people and property threatened by violent agitators protesting enforcement of immigration laws Congress passed decades ago. The civil disorder closed a nearby freeway and federal offices.

Ruiz sat atop his motorcycle among the protesters. He then drove his motorcycle from the crowd into a skirmish line of LAPD officers. He was arrested and charged in state and federal court. His federal sentencing hearing is set for November 2.

NEW: Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin a deputy’s K-9 unit was rear ended on I-94 this morning.

The sheriff’s office had responded to a crash earlier and while attempting to close a lane of travel down, the K-9 unit was struck.

The deputy suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. The K-9 also suffered non-life-threatening injuries. They were taken to a veterinary hospital and cleared to go home and rest.

The others vehicle was occupied by a man, woman and small child, all were transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

NEW: The Utah State Correctional Facility remained on lockdown Monday as officials investigated the assault of a correctional officer by an inmate.

According to the Utah Department of Corrections, the assault happened Sunday, July 26, inside the prison. Officials said the inmate attacked the officer, who suffered a head injury and is expected to make a full recovery.

The department has not released the identities of the officer or the inmate, citing the ongoing investigation. Additional details about the assault also have not been released.

I am writing to you because I am disturbed by Tennessee Department of Corrections plans to implement the same or similar probation/parole methods used in Liberal states such as Colorado, California, Washington and Oregon. I feel this is an important issue as leadership is not telling the full story to legislators and judges. They are also openly telling officers who object either get on board or get out. I hope you will be willing to run a story or do some investigation into this and stop this leftist ideology from invading Tennessee."

"They are implementing policies that move most offenders who they will be referring to as clients to call in reporting leaving them mostly unsupervised.  They Base the risk levels of these clients on flawed computer programs that determine their supervision level using risk and need factors.  The model does a very poor job of calculating risk as they currently use it to assign risk levels and supervision levels.  The remaining people will be supervised with kid gloves and instead of holding them accountable with punishment such as violations and llto go back in front of a judge to answer for their behavior by spending some time in jail instead they will basically talk about the behavior and rely on coaching sessions like a counselor does.  This is the same model used in Colorado with disastrous results.  On paper it looks good with drastic drops in recidivism that looks great on paper but ignores the rising crime rates. The real purpose of this is not to improve community saftey it's to make on paper the recidivism rates drop.  Infact they removed public saftey from the motto.  Leadership is focused on liberal policies through and through partly because the Assistant commissioner is from California and partly because i beleive the bureaucrats that make policy are left leaning.  The most telling thing is that they openly tell experienced seasoned officers who do the day to day dealings with offenders either get on board or leave.  The funny thing about that is they can hardly keep officers as it is now because the leadership is so poor and they rarely promote from within and if they do they do it with affirmative action or cronyism and either way when these people come on and can't do the job they turn a blind eye and if they come from outside the agency it takes months for them to do the basics of the job and years before they are proficient. Which is why they have so much turn over.  Because they burn out the good employees."

Police are searching for a driver who fled from officers and fatally struck a hospital employee near Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center.

Georgia State Patrol

NEW: House crashes into car on the I-20 East in Villa Rica, Georgia, crushing the car, Collin Rugg reports.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a Nissan Pathfinder ran into a Ford Explorer, causing a chain reaction involving three tractor-trailers and 14 cars.

The crash also appeared to involve a house that was being transported, which toppled onto a vehicle.

According to Atlanta News First, nine people were hospitalized from the pileup, and they are all expected to recover.
