It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic and untimely loss of Napa County District Attorney Investigator Nicholas Conrad, age 46, following a battle with Glioblastoma.

Nick was a deeply respected and well-loved member of our District Attorney family. He was our “Car Guy” and for good reason – cars were a passion for Nick, and it was his expert automotive knowledge that proved to be invaluable to many of the cases that we prosecuted on behalf of the People.

Before joining the Napa County District Attorney's Office a decade ago, Nick proudly served as a police officer with the Novato Police Department, dedicating himself to protecting the community he loved. Throughout his career, he brought consummate professionalism, integrity, and a tireless work ethic to every one of his endeavors.

Today, family, friends, and fellow officers will gather to honor NYPD Officer Ryan Thomas McDonald, who passed away unexpectedly at just 28 years old.

The Orangeburg resident joined the New York City Police Department on Jan. 29, 2025, and was assigned to the 34th Precinct.

According to his obituary, McDonald loved serving as a police officer and found a strong sense of purpose in protecting New York City residents.

A bomb detection K9 with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office died after being accidentally left in a hot vehicle, leading the agency to push for newer patrol vehicles equipped with climate safety systems.

A North Carolina sheriff's office K-9 died last month after being accidentally left in a hot cruiser. Chilli, a bomb detection K-9 that had been with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office since May 2025, died June 11, and the following day, the agency ruled that the death had been an accident.

NEW: A Fort Worth drug investigation turned into a chase that ended in Dallas after a suspect fled a stop, struck a cruiser and almost hit a police officer before being taken into custody with over 5 kilograms of methamphetamine.

UPDATE: This afternoon, two people were stabbed in separate attacks on the Upper West Side. Both victims — an Asian male and a Jewish male — were removed to Mt. Sinai-St. Luke’s Hospital, and both are expected to survive. 

The NYPD has arrested 51-year-old Raul Morales in connection with both assaults, and no other people are being sought. Detectives are continuing to work the case and determine motive, but according to victim and witness statements, Morales yelled “Allahu Akbar” during both attacks. The NYPD is currently evaluating whether this is a potential hate crime.

While the perpetrator has no known mental health history with the NYPD, the initial investigation suggests that mental health may have been a factor.

At this time there is no known link between Morales and either of the victims, nor between the victims and each other.

I want to commend the bravery of a good Samaritan who led our officers to the location where the perpetrator was hiding, as well as our NYPD cops who brought an end to the incident without further injuries.

HERO ALERT: A driver dressed as Spider-Man jumped out of his car to help a man in a wheelchair cross the street at a busy intersection in Jonesboro, Arkanasas, police said on social media.

"We were able to spot this little web of kindness on our intersection cameras. Thank you, sir, for helping this gentleman reach his destination safely," the Jonesboro Police Department said on Facebook.

Today, the convicted criminal who stalked and murdered Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, Minnesota State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, and attempted to shoot their daughter—was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences, plus a consecutive 40-year prison sentence. This murderer will spend the rest of his life behind bars for his heinous acts of violence against public servants and their families.

This Justice Department will continue to hold accountable anyone who seeks to harm public officials and their families to the fullest extent of the law.

Fighting fire with a cooler, cups and bottles of water! Workers in San Francisco leaped into action with their makeshift tools to battle a grass fire that burned right up to local businesses on Thursday afternoon. In the face of a fierce fire, the workers made a brave stand, holding back the flames until the SF firefighters could get on the scene.
