A Las Vegas man has been sentenced to 14 to 35 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon.
According to court testimony, Jose Galan-Preval stabbed his girlfriend, Yaimara Leyva-Cadet, after she refused to make him rice.
His lawyer said he “snapped,” and the judge described the killing as a horrific way to die.

NEW: Two New York State Troopers were taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after a Jeep struck their patrol vehicles from behind on State Route 374 in the town of Plattsburgh, causing one of the vehicles to catch fire, according to State Police.
Troopers Jakai E. Townsend of SP Lewis and Jacob R. Casey of SP Plattsburgh were responding to a three-vehicle crash Thursday morning in two patrol vehicles. Both troopers were headed westbound on Route 374 and slowed as an uninvolved vehicle ahead of them prepared to turn.
A 2018 orange Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 41-year-old woman from Saranac, N.Y, failed to notice the slowing traffic and hit Townsend's patrol vehicle from behind, according to State Police. That impact pushed Townsend's vehicle into the back of Casey's.
Townsend's vehicle caught fire after the collision. Local fire departments and emergency medical crews responded and put out the fire.

NEW: A Jefferson County Colorado deputy crashed while on the way to assist another deputy at a hospital, according to a statement made to FOX31 from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on Friday morning.
The deputy had lights and sirens on and lost control of the vehicle on Hampden Avenue near Sheridan Boulevard.
He was responding to the Swedish Hospital to assist another deputy.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office clarified that this was a single-vehicle crash and did not involve a chase.
The deputy who crashed sustained minor injuries.

Praying for the Winter Haven police officer who was injured this evening.🙏🏻
At approximately 6:42 p.m., Off Duty Winter Haven Police motorcycle officer was involved in a crash with a vehicle at 1st Street N and Avenue D NW in Winter Haven.
The officer has been declared an adult trauma alert and will be transported by helicopter.
A landing zone has been established near 1st Street and Avenue E.
The roadway is currently blocked as Winter Haven Police and Winter Haven Fire Department personnel remain on scene. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes until the scene is cleared.

Happy birthday to my amazing son, Joe Fox!
It may be his birthday, but he gives me the greatest gift a father could ever ask for every single day. He is a wonderful husband, a devoted father, and an incredible son. He also inspires me by living a life of service in the NYPD.
This photo was taken after the funeral of an NYPD hero who was taken from us. Standing beside my son in that moment—this young man whom I watched grow into the person he is today—meant more to me than I can put into words.
