Hollenbeck Area (Newton) OIS 6/9/2026 (NRF026-26)

Los Angeles: On June 9, 2026, at around 1:47 pm., uniformed officers assigned to Newton Patrol Division observed a gray pickup truck displaying a temporary paper license plate parked in the area of Washington Boulevard and Alameda Street. The officers also observed a pedestrian standing in the roadway adjacent to the driver’s side door of the vehicle.

As officers approached to investigate, they observed the driver in possession of a handgun. When officers attempted to detain him, the suspect fled in the vehicle at a high rate of speed. Officers initiated a vehicle pursuit, which continued into the Hollenbeck Area and ended when the suspect crashed into a fence. The suspect then exited his vehicle and fled on foot. During the ensuing foot pursuit, the suspect produced a handgun and fired at pursuing officers, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS).

During the incident, one officer was struck in the chest by gunfire. The round did not penetrate the officer’s ballistic vest, and the officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and later released. The suspect was struck by gunfire, fell to the ground, and dropped his handgun. Officers took the suspect into custody, secured the handgun, and requested a Rescue Ambulance (RA). Personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded and transported the suspect to a local hospital, where he was treated for multiple gunshot wounds.

The investigation determined the suspect was driving a reported stolen vehicle. The firearm was recovered at the scene and booked as evidence. No additional officers or community members were injured during the incident. Personnel from Force Investigation Division (FID) and Robbery Homicide Division (RHD) responded to the scene and assumed investigative responsibility.

A defendant in the federal bribery case surrounding former Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao sent a letter to California Attorney General Rob Bonta in May 2024 warning him that Andy Duong (now federally indicted), allegedly had a secret compromising video of Bonta.

The letter also alleged the Duong family was involved in money laundering, illegal political donations, falsification of contracts, exploitation of straw donors and facilitating prostitution for elected officials.

California’s top law enforcement officer deserves full transparency, and so do California’s voters.

A Las Vegas man has been sentenced to 14 to 35 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon.

According to court testimony, Jose Galan-Preval stabbed his girlfriend, Yaimara Leyva-Cadet, after she refused to make him rice.

His lawyer said he “snapped,” and the judge described the killing as a horrific way to die.

NEW: Two New York State Troopers were taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after a Jeep struck their patrol vehicles from behind on State Route 374 in the town of Plattsburgh, causing one of the vehicles to catch fire, according to State Police.

Troopers Jakai E. Townsend of SP Lewis and Jacob R. Casey of SP Plattsburgh were responding to a three-vehicle crash Thursday morning in two patrol vehicles. Both troopers were headed westbound on Route 374 and slowed as an uninvolved vehicle ahead of them prepared to turn.

A 2018 orange Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 41-year-old woman from Saranac, N.Y, failed to notice the slowing traffic and hit Townsend's patrol vehicle from behind, according to State Police. That impact pushed Townsend's vehicle into the back of Casey's.

Townsend's vehicle caught fire after the collision. Local fire departments and emergency medical crews responded and put out the fire.

NEW: A Jefferson County Colorado deputy crashed while on the way to assist another deputy at a hospital, according to a statement made to FOX31 from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on Friday morning.

The deputy had lights and sirens on and lost control of the vehicle on Hampden Avenue near Sheridan Boulevard.

He was responding to the Swedish Hospital to assist another deputy.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office clarified that this was a single-vehicle crash and did not involve a chase.
The deputy who crashed sustained minor injuries.

UPDATE: A 15-year-old alleged gang member has been arrested in connection with the East Los Angeles shooting that injured four people after a World Cup gathering. Two women, ages 21 and 38, were also arrested for their alleged roles in luring the primary victim to the location and helping the suspect evade arrest.
