At least 26 people are dead and 16 missing after the powerful Typhoon Hagibis ripped through Japan triggering deadly landslides and flooding rivers, with hundreds of homes evacuated. The destruction forced Rugby World Cup organisers to cancel the third match of the tournament, though the key Japan-Scotland clash will go ahead. By Sunday morning, the significantly weakened storm had moved back off land, but serious flooding was reported in central Japan's Nagano, where a burst levee sent water from the Chikuma river gushing into residential neighbourhoods, flooding homes up to the second floor. Yasuhiro Yamaguchi, an emergency official in Nagano city said: 'Overnight, we issued evacuation orders to 427 households, 1,417 individuals.' The government has deployed 27,000 troops and other rescue workers to take part in operations after some 376,000 homes were left without electricity, and 14,000 without running water. 🌪💦😱

Authorities say a 3-year-old girl has been kidnapped from a birthday party in Alabama. Police issued an Amber Alert late Saturday after someone in a dark SUV grabbed Kamille McKinney while she was outside with friends about 8:30 p.m. and drove away. The alert says Kamille, whose family calls her “Cupcake,” is 3-feet tall and weighs 60 pounds. She was wearing a pink Minnie Mouse T-shirt and had yellow, white and blue bows in her hair. Birmingham Deputy Chief Scott Praytor told Al.com that investigators are asking any homes or businesses in the Avondale area near the Tom Brown Village public housing complex to share surveillance camera footage with police. The New Jersey State Police are investigating the death of a 10-year-old girl who was ejected from an amusement ride Saturday night at the annual Deerfield Township Harvest Festival, USA Today reports. At 6:18 p.m. Saturday, the victim was ejected from an amusement ride called “Extreme.” The girl suffered serious injuries in the fall, and was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where she was pronounced dead at 7:20 p.m. Skelly's Amusements, which is operating the rides at the three-day festival, acknowledged the tragic accident with a statement on its Facebook page. "We are absolutely heartbroken. Words cannot express our feelings and we extend our deepest sympathies to the individual’s family and loved ones. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts."
