BREAKING: A "beloved community activist" and former government staffer was one of two people killed in a shooting at a Fourth of July block party in Compton. 

"State Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson (D-Carson, Gipson is a member of the California Legislative Black Caucus,) released a statement Monday confirming that Eric Washington, who once worked for Gipson, died when gunfire erupted during an Independence Day celebration around 11:20 p.m. Saturday in the 700 block of West Laurel Street."

Praying for the two Two Pickaway County Ohio deputies who were injured in the line of duty this afternoon.🙏🏻

A multi-agency manhunt is underway for Daniel Allen Robinette, 34, who is wanted on two counts of felonious assault after using his father's identity and fleeing a traffic stop in a red 2012 Chevy Cruze on July 6, 2026. During the escape in a Walmart parking lot, Robinette struck Deputy Little with the vehicle and dragged Sergeant McIntyre roughly 30 feet, causing a severe head injury before abandoning the deputy’s lost phone and fleeing to pick up his 12-year-old daughter from his parents' home.

Despite suffering a severe, heavily bleeding head wound, Sgt. McIntyre managed to scramble back to his cruiser to attempt a pursuit, but Robinette had already vanished into the night.

Sgt. McIntyre was transported to the Berger Hospital Emergency Room, where he was treated for a severe laceration and contusion to the back of his head. Dep. Little sustained a significant contusion to his left forearm from being struck by the vehicle but did not require immediate emergency hospitalization.

NEW: A Miami-Dade deputy was injured after a suspect launched a firework at them during a street takeover in Northwest Miami-Dade on Sunday, deputies said.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, the deputy was investigating an illegal street takeover at Northwest 77th Court and 169th Street

During their investigation, the deputy was going to take one suspect into custody when another suspect launched a live firework at them, which exploded and caused a minor burn to the deputy's hand.

MDSO said the two suspects then fled the area in unknown vehicles.
