🚨BREAKING: The Gold Mountain Fire exploded in size on Monday, nearly doubling in size. More evacuations have been ordered. Anyone hiking, camping, or otherwise recreating in the area of Cow Creek on Forest Service Land past the intersection of CR-10A and CR-12 has been ordered to LEAVE NOW by the sheriff's office.

Officials asked that citizens limit their communications to essential phone calls and text messages to help preserve network capacity. Streaming video and other high-bandwidth activities are particularly hard on the network.

Citizens can sign up for important updates by texting OURAYALERTS to 65513, according to the Ouray city government.

The town of Ouray itself is not under evacuation or pre-evacuation notices, according to Ouray County Emergency Management. The Ridgway Secondary School has been designated an evacuation center by the Red Cross. The address is 1200 Green St, Ridgway, CO 81432.

However, the Ouray County Sheriff’s Office urged residents to put together a plan with their household in case the situation worsens. Consider packing an evacuation bag with essentials ahead of time.

Massachusetts State Police Announce the Death of Trooper in Off-Duty Motorcycle Crash

"With heavy hearts, the Massachusetts State Police announce the unexpected death of Trooper Jacob Mick who died from injuries sustained in an off-duty motorcycle crash in Grafton.

A member of the 88th Recruit Training Troop assigned to the Holden Barracks, the life of this 31-year-old Northboro native has been cut short by this enormous tragedy.

Speaking of the late Trooper, the Superintendent of the State Police, Colonel Geoffrey Noble said, “Together, we mourn Trooper Jacob Mick, and extend our deepest sympathies to his wife, their infant daughter, his family, and all who loved him. He was a proud Trooper and public servant who never hesitated to answer the call. We remember and honor Trooper Mick’s years of service, and all he gave to the Commonwealth as well as to the Department.”

Trooper Mick graduated from the Massachusetts State Police Academy in 2023."

Residents lined the streets of Grand Junction, Colorado today as firefighters from the Forest Service, USWFS, and state resources escorted the fallen firefighters Emily Barker, Nick Hutcherson, and Sydney Watson in a procession.
