A public memorial service is being held for fallen DPS Trooper Sergio Romero.

Trooper Sergio Romero, 27, was killed Wednesday afternoon when a big rig reportedly pulled out in front of his patrol vehicle on U.S. 287 in Childress County.

Gov. Greg Abbott called Romero's death a heartbreaking loss, saying the young trooper "made the ultimate sacrifice while serving his fellow Texans."

Romero leaves behind his wife, Francisca, and their two young sons. Flags at Texas Department of Public Safety facilities have been ordered lowered to half-staff in his honor.💙

A pair of miniature horses led police on a pursuit through a residential neighborhood in Bartlett, Tennessee, after escaping their home.

The horses were eventually wrangled and returned back to their owner, the police department said.

NEW: Multiple buildings partially collapsed after a powerful earthquake hit Venezuela.

Today, June 24, 2026, at 22:04 UTC (around 6:04 PM local time in Venezuela), the USGS officially reports a magnitude 7.1 earthquake with the epicenter 28 km NW of Montalbán, Carabobo state (north-central Venezuela), at a shallow depth of 13.2 km.

It was widely felt in Caracas, other parts of Venezuela, and neighboring countries like Colombia, Trinidad & Tobago, Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao. Strong shaking (up to intensity VIII in some areas) caused evacuations, visible damage in videos, and reports of structural issues in buildings.

No major tsunami threat for most areas, but aftershocks are expected. Authorities are assessing damage and casualties.

UPDATE: A powerful 7.2-magnitude earthquake shook Venezuela on Wednesday evening, seconds before a 7.5-magnitude quake hit, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

We heard you loud and clear about e-bikes at Grijalva Park.

Our Motor Officers have been spending extra time in the area addressing illegal and unsafe e-bike riding. One rider recently decided that stopping for an officer was optional and attempted to make a quick getaway.

As you’ll see in the video, that plan had a very short life expectancy.

The lesson here is simple: if you see one of our Motor Officers, it’s probably best not to test whether your e-bike is faster. Obey the rules, ride safely, and help keep Grijalva Park enjoyable for everyone.

Oh, for those wondering how it ended, he was cited for nine violations and his motorcycle was impounded. That’s a pretty expensive way to learn the rules of the road.
