NEW: A wrong-way driver was killed Friday night after a head-on crash with a marked Ohio State Highway Patrol cruiser on OH 2 in Lake County, according to a news release from OSHP.

The crash happened just before 9 p.m. Friday on westbound OH 2 near OH 44 in Painesville Township.
Investigators said a trooper was traveling west in a marked patrol vehicle when a brown 2011 Toyota Scion, traveling east in the westbound lanes, struck the cruiser head-on. Following the initial impact, the Scion caught fire.
The driver of the Scion, identified as Jerry Alberico, 61, of Mentor, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities confirmed.

The trooper suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to University Hospitals TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township for treatment, officials said. Please join us in sending prayers and, or positive thoughts for his recovery🙏🏻

CAUGHT ON CAMERA: This is one of the crashes on Highway 6 in south Brazos County Texas this afternoon.

It looks bad but I’m told the driver in the pickup that flipped was okay! 🙏🏼 

We should have more information on all the wrecks later this evening or tomorrow. Troopers have been busy with getting all this cleared up.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol was honored to join the Route 66 Centennial Caravan as it traveled through Oklahoma, celebrating nearly a century of history along America's most famous highway.

Troopers proudly showcased OHP's original 1937 Ford patrol vehicle, a rolling piece of Oklahoma law enforcement history, as the caravan made stops at the Oklahoma State Capitol, the Red Barn in Arcadia, and the iconic Blue Whale in Catoosa.

From historic landmarks to classic automobiles, the event highlighted the enduring legacy of Route 66 and the communities that have helped shape its story. We are proud to be part of that history and grateful for the opportunity to share it with visitors from across the country.
