HAPPY RETIREMENT π After 23 years of dedicated service to our community, we're taking a moment to congratulate Sharon Ross, Administrative Supervisor, on her retirement.
Since joining Sarasota PD, she served in several important roles within our Criminal Investigations Division (CID), supporting command staff, detectives, crime scene investigators and victims throughout numerous cases. Sharon had a passion for researching cold cases. She helped assist in solving a homicide case from 1985 and located a missing infant from a 2000 case, safely as an adult.
During her career, Sharon earned a Distinguished Service Medal, Civilian Employee of the Quarter, received two commendations and completed 25 training courses.
Sharon says she will miss her CID family the most, but is looking forward to spending more time with her four grandbabies and enjoying new adventures. Congratulations on your retirement!

BREAKING: Five people are dead and dozens are injured after a multi-vehicle crash involving a motorcoach early Friday morning on Interstate 95 southbound in Stafford County, Virginia. The NTSB is now assisting in the investigation. Praying for all involvedππ»β¦
BREAKING: Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy reveals that the bus driver who caused a crash on I-95 in Virginia that killed five people, including a little boy, is a naturalized U.S. citizen who was born in China, doesnβt speak English, and was given a CDL by New York in 2024
"Update on the tragic bus crash in Virginia:
Five people are dead, including a 13-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy, after the driver of a motorcoach slammed into stopped traffic on I-95.
FMCSA Administrator Derek Barrs and our investigators are on the ground at the crash site working with the NTSB.
Local police confirm the driver of this motorcoach β a man from China who became a U.S. citizen β doesnβt speak English. He received his commercial drivers license from New York State in 2024.
Unacceptable. This is exactly why we are holding statesβ accountable, enforcing the rules of the road, and cracking down on drivers who canβt speak English.
If you canβt be properly trained, read our road signs, or communicate with law enforcement, you have no business driving a bus.
Our investigators are reviewing New York licensing records, training documentation, and the driver's history. Any company, trainer, or school that contributed to putting an unqualified driver on the road will face intense scrutiny.
Weβll share more updates soon.
My prayers are with the loved ones of the innocent lives lost and those who were hurt in this horrific crime."
