Hong Kong: Protesters target surveillance cameras and MTR station
PUBLISHED 16:00, 6 Oct 2019
Masked anti-government protesters were seen destroying surveillance cameras of businesses and hitting fire sprinklers at a Mass Transit Railway (MTR) station in Hong Kong's Mong Kok district on Saturday, as tensions escalated following the government's new ban on masks. Footage also shows a heavy police presence, with officers removing barricades set up by protesters. The new face mask ban, which came into effect at Friday midnight local time (16:00 GMT), was invoked by Chief Executive of Hong Kong Carrie Lam under the emergency ordinance.
The Emergency Regulations Ordinance law used to implement the ban was last applied during riots in 1967.
Lam said during a press conference on Friday that barring Hong Kongers from wearing face coverings at public rallies will provide a "deterrent effect" and is intended to stop violent acts occurring during protests.

WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT! A gas grenade killed a protester in Baghdad City, Iraq. 😱
A neighbor of Botham Jean who was a key witness in the murder trial of Amber Guyger has been shot dead in Dallas. Joshua Brown, 28, was gunned down outside an apartment complex in the city's Medical District around 10.30 pm on Friday. He was rushed to nearby Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Witnesses say they heard several gunshots and saw a silver sedan speeding out of the apartment complex's parking lot shortly after. Police have not apprehended or publicly identified a suspect in the fatal shooting, according to Dallas Morning News. It's also unclear whether Brown's death was in any way connected to the Guyger's murder trial. Brown was a neighbor of both Jean and Guyger, and his shocking slaying comes just 10 days after he broke down on the witness stand as he recounted the night Jean was fatally shot by Guyger.

New clashes in Iraq have resulted in 18 people being killed as the death toll rises to close to 100, as protestors continue to demonstrate over corruption and unemployment. Nearly 100 people have died since Tuesday and the protests have taken local authorities by surprise. But the streets remained calm this morning, as many protestors have previously gathered momentum in the evening. Just two year after the defeat of Islamic State in the region, corruption is still rampant and jobs remain scarce. 🔥😱
