The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office, MS, is deeply saddened to share the passing of Sgt. Chris Moses (06/28/1967 – 05/04/2026), a devoted public servant who dedicated more than two decades of honorable service to the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office and the Hinds County community. His loss is felt across our agency and among the many people whose lives he touched through his work and his character.

Sgt. Moses will be remembered for his leadership, compassion, and selflessness—qualities that defined both his service and his relationships with colleagues and community members. His years with the Street Crimes Unit and the Mounted Unit showcased his versatility, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to public safety."

Topper Trainor served for three years - including a recent stint assisting the FBI with traffic stops in support of an FBI Boston Human Trafficking investigation. He is survived by his mother, four siblings, and his fiancé.

NEW: A traffic stop led to the seizure of 396 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden in a trailer’s false compartment. This was part of an investigation by HPD’s Narcotics Division, Squad 5, partnered with the DEA Galveston Office, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (Houston), and the Harris County Sheriff's Office. An armed suspect was arrested. An additional 73 kilograms of methamphetamine and cash were recovered from the suspect’s residence.

Alabama: A suspect is under arrest after allegedly causing serious injury to an off-duty police officer who was working security at a Montgomery Walmart, according to court filings.

Donovan Keontae Caldwell, 20, of Prattville, was arrested on a second-degree assault charge after a confrontation at the Walmart on Ann Street Tuesday morning.

Caldwell is accused of hitting the victim, a loss prevention officer who was off-duty from his job as an Alabama State University police officer, multiple times in the face after being stopped on suspicion of shoplifting around 11:35 a.m.

On 5/4/26, a @TxDPS Trooper stopped a silver Toyota Corolla on US-277 in Maverick County. During the traffic stop, the Trooper discovered the driver, Adrian John Vargas of Mississippi, was attempting to smuggle two illegal immigrants from Colombia and Honduras.

Vargas was arrested and charged with smuggling of persons. The two illegal immigrants were turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol.

This arrest highlights the continued efforts by Texas DPS Troopers to disrupt human smuggling operations and prevent criminal activity from moving further into the interior of Texas as part of Operation Lone Star.
