I was honored to be invited as the keynote speaker at the California Peace Officers’ Enrollment Ceremony a solemn tribute to those who gave everything in service to others.

Today, we recognize the true meaning of this profession. Law enforcement is more than a job it is a calling defined by courage, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to protect our communities, no matter the cost.

As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said,

β€œThere are some things so dear, some things so precious, some things so eternally true, that they are worth dying for and I submit to you that if a man has not discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live.”

This year, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department honors 3 of the 13 fallen officers whose names will now be forever etched on the Memorial Wall in Sacramento. Their legacy will live on in the hearts of those who continue to serve and in the communities they so selflessly protected.

Behind every badge is a family who shares in the sacrifice. The long hours, the missed holidays, and the constant worry. This job doesn’t just affect the deputy, it impacts everyone who stands beside them.

Today, we also recognize the strength of the spouses, children, and families who stand beside them through it all.

We will never forget their service. We will never forget their sacrifice.

Sheriff Robert Luna

Down in Kissimmee, Florida, a dog was spotted lying on the side of the road. It had been hit by a car. Osceola County deputy Josh Fiorelli was passing by when he saw the injured animal. The female dog was alive but was hurt enough that it couldn't move. Josh was heartbroken that such a thing happened. So he called for help then sat down beside the white dog and started petting it. Some dogs might get defensive when they're hurt, but not this one. It seemed to welcome the officer being there for it. Josh then put his jacket over the dog to keep it warm, as the day was chilly and the dog was wet. Says Josh: β€œShe didn't have anyone there, so I decided to be that person.” The dog was soon treated for a dislocated leg. Carlos Irizzary was walking his own dog when he came across Josh helping the injured dog, so he snapped a photo of it, and posted it online. It went viral, and it was shared by several news outlets throughout the country. The Osceola County Sheriff's Office also posted the photo on its website, saying: β€œ...Thank you Deputy Fiorelli for serving with care and compassion.”

WATCH: President Donald J. Trump delivers remarks as he signs an official proclamation.

POTUS: "We're thrilled to have so many young athletes here at the White House and in the Oval Office on this magnificent Spring day... to celebrate America's athletic traditions and champions in physical fitness."

"Today, I sign a Proclamation recognizing national youth sports and fitness and I'll also sign the very first copy of the new, revitalized Presidential Fitness Test award β€” a certificate in recognition of achievement of the gold standard of physical fitness."

POTUS: From the late 1950s until 2013, grade schoolers across the country competed against each other in the Presidential Fitness Test, then we had the Obama administration, which phased out this wonderful tradition of physical fitnessβ€”and we're bringing it back. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

brysondech: Re-establishing the Presidential Fitness Test has been a huge deal for me. These kids now are going to have a healthy future. We want to make sure our kids have the best opportunity to succeed in life, and their physical fitness is a huge priority to helping them become better human beings.

garyplayer: "I've never seen a President that loves the country as much as you do, and I say thank you, because I've traveled more miles than any human being before... and I've never seen a country like this β€” the freedom that exists, which is so important to all of us..."

REPORTER: What does Iran need to do to violate the ceasefire?

POTUS: "You'll find out... they know what not to do... they fired [from] little boats with pea shooters... you know why? Because they don't have any boats anymore."

POTUS on the Iranian people: "They want to protest, but they don't have any guns. You could have 200,000 people protesting, and have 5 or 6 sick people with guns, and when they start shooting them right between the eyes... very few people would be able to stand there."

POTUS: "Other presidents should have done this. 47 years, they've been toying with these stupid people... This should have been done by Obama. He went the other way. He was giving them cash... They screwed Obama, ok? That's not the way we play. We do it the old fashioned way."

"I think you're going to be far better as an athlete than anybody behind you." ❀️

Please, praying for the Pearl Police officer who was seriously injured in the line of duty last night.πŸ™πŸ»

Mississippi: An officer with the Pearl Police Department is recovering from injuries he sustained while responding to a call for service.

Police Chief Nick
McLendon said the officer was β€œseriously injured” in a crash on Highway 80 near Bierdeman Road on Monday night. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

McLendon added that the unidentified officer suffered multiple injuries, though he did not specify the nature of them. The officer was released from the hospital later Monday night in stable condition.

β€œHe’s banged up but doing okay. We are incredibly thankful for all the continued prayers and support. The Good Lord was definitely watching over him,” McLendon said.
