Two Grappler deployments = two dangerous individuals taken into custody.

First up – on the 18th officers attempted to stop a vehicle with no license plates at East Mississippi and South Moline. But, the vehicle fled. The driver began driving recklessly and at one point threw an empty beer bottle out of the vehicle.

That’s when our Grappler comes in.

A successful deployment resulted in 50-year-old Jose Holguin taken into custody without further incident.
Inside his vehicle we found an unrestrained bulldog (poor thing!) in the back seat and an open, nearly empty bottle of vodka. Holguin was arrested on suspicion of vehicular eluding, animal cruelty, driving without a license, without insurance and operating an unregistered vehicle. He also had multiple warrants.

Round two➑️

On April 27, officers got a flock hit of a stolen vehicle near 6th and Potomac. Officers followed the vehicle using our city cameras and found the vehicle getting gas. No joke.

As soon as the vehicle pulled out of the gas station, we attempted to pull the driver over, but we guess they wanted to see the Grappler deployed too because they did not comply.

A pursuit was initiated and a Grappler was deployed as the driver got onto I-225.

36-year-old Rebecca Bradshaw was taken into custody without incident and good lord, girl, in the back of the stolen car we also found multiple baggies containing:
β€’Methamphetamine
β€’Cocaine
β€’Pills believed to be counterfeit oxycodone containing fentanyl-related substances
β€’A scale and materials commonly used for drug distribution

Bradshaw is now facing charges of motor vehicle theft, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and oh also, she had two active warrants.

These situations could have ended very differently.

The Grappler isn’t just another tool in our toolbelt to help hold offenders accountable. It helps to stop a fleeing vehicle quickly and safely, reducing the risk to everyone on the road.

[Media Description: Body camera and dash camera footage of two suspect vehicles being stopped using a grappler devise.]

Los Angeles Controller Kenneth Mejia says they’ve found fraud and abuse

- A single homeless service provider gave fake documents and invoices, stealing $23 million for taxpayers

- Another nonprofit named the Skid Row Housing Trust that managed 29 buildings was letting the properties rot. This ended up costing the city of Los Angeles $30-$40 million dollars in repairs

He says the have a batch of 800 more cases and they’re β€œgoing to be expensive”

The fraud and money laundering is insane

Today's 6-3 Supreme Court decision in the Callais case is a BIG WIN for Equal Protection under the Law, as it returns the Voting Rights Act to its Original Intent, which was to protect against intentional Racial Discrimination. Thank you to brilliant Justice Samuel Alito for authoring this important and appropriate Opinion. Congratulations! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Today is a great day.

We wanted to share with our community – Officer Mark Moore has been released from the hospital and is going home. Mark, who was seriously injured responding to a mental health call on April 9, has undergone multiple surgeries and nearly two weeks of rehabilitation. He continues to have a long road to recovery, but today marks a powerful step forward.

Through it all, Mark, his family, and his K9 partner Cyrus have felt an outpouring of support from this community. All of us here at APD can’t thank you enough for that. It has not gone unnoticed, and it has made a difference.

The shooting that left CPD Officer John Bartholomew dead and another officer gravely injured should be a clarion call for lawmakers to amend the SAFE-T Act to mandate detention of dangerous and habitual criminals and end the catastrophic electronic monitoring program. Sadly, they probably won’t.

Changing the law would be an admission that it was a massive overreach in favor of violent criminals that has left hundreds dead and wounded. Look for Governor Pritzker, Mayor Johnson and other progressives to detract us with continued tales of fictitious ICE threats and other political scarecrows.

A shooting that left a Sioux Falls South Dakota police officer injured is spurring law enforcement to renew the call for the state to take a hard look at its parole and prison system as a whole.

Police say two of the individuals police pursued were on parole and had β€œattempt to locates” issued. Sioux Falls and Minnehaha law enforcement have been critical of South Dakota's prison system in its entirety in the past. That came at the forefront amid conversations to build a new state prison in Sioux Falls.

Mike Milstead is the Minnehaha County Sheriff. He said on Tuesday, 114 of 400 inmates in the county jail were on parole holds. He pointed to state statute that says parolees are under Department of Corrections custody until the final day of parole. He’s advocated for taking a hard look at South Dakota’s parole and prison system. He said this shooting is just another reason to call for changes, calling the parole system a "revolving door."
