Deputy Heather Avery with the Jefferson County Constable’s Office Pct. 1 was killed in an automobile crash this morning.

My deepest condolences go to her husband, Troy, and her family."

Agents and Laredo PD stopped a human smuggler on Highway 35 and discovered 22 illegal aliens packed inside the cab: 19 from Mexico, 1 from Guatemala, and 2 unaccompanied minors from Mexico. The driver, a U.S. citizen, is facing alien smuggling charges.
