California: A Long Beach police officer was stabbed during a violent confrontation Friday afternoon in downtown, prompting a large police response just blocks from the Long Beach Grand Prix.
The incident occurred around 2:42 p.m. on April 17 in the 200 block of West Broadway, near First Street and Pacific Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Officers were responding to an unknown trouble call involving a possibly armed suspect. When they arrived, they located a man matching the description and attempted to de-escalate the situation. During the encounter, a use of force occurred, and the suspect produced a knife and stabbed an officer multiple times.
Witnesses reported the confrontation stemmed from a dispute involving several individuals prior to police arrival.
Four Department of Homeland Security federal air marshals working nearby witnessed the attack and rushed to assist officers, helping take the suspect into custody without further incident.
The injured officer was taken to a hospital, treated, and later released.
βThis officer put himself in harmβs way in the defense of others and sustained serious injuries in doing so,β Long Beach Police Chief Wally Hebeish said. βI am very grateful that he is going to recover.β
The suspect, identified as Arturo Fernandez, a 44-year-old Torrance resident, was arrested at the scene. After being medically cleared at a hospital, he was booked into Long Beach City Jail on suspicion of attempted murder. Bail was set at $1 million.
Please join us in sending prayers and, or positive thoughts for the officer's recoveryππ»

UPDATE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: APRIL 19, 2026
"WISTER, OK - On April 19, 2026, the LeFlore County Sheriff's Office requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to investigate an officer-involved shooting.
At around 11:00 a.m., the LeFlore County Sheriff's Office, Wister Police Department, and the United States Forestry Department responded to a welfare check at a residence along U.S. Highway 270, near Wister.
When law enforcement arrived on scene, they were immediately fired upon from an individual, identified as 36-year-old Edgar Lara.
An officer-involved shooting occurred, as Lara barricaded himself inside the residence, resulting in a stand-off. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol, along with several other agencies, deployed additional law enforcement personnel to assist.
At around 4:00 p.m., Lara surrendered to law enforcement officials. Lara was treated for minor injuries and booked into the LeFlore County Jail.
During the incident, a LeFlore County deputy and a Wister Police officer sustained injuries. The deputy was pronounced deceased and the officer was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
This is still an ongoing investigation. Official charges for Lara are pending through the District 16 District Attorney's Office."

NEW: ICE confirms that the suspect arrested in Houston, TX for allegedly using a sledgehammer to bludgeon a coworker to death is a Venezuelan illegal alien who was caught and released at the border by the Biden administration in November 2023. ICE has placed a detainer request on Josue Abraham Chirino-Leonice with Harris County, TX law enforcement, Bill Melugin reports.
He was arrested on April 12th after police say he was found driving around in the victim's vehicle after he used a sledgehammer to beat the victim to death while they were renovating a house together.
ICE statement:
βThis criminal illegal alien β who never should have been allowed into the country in the first place β is accused of savagely beating a co-worker to death with a sledgehammer and leaving him to die in a house they were renovating together. Our officers are working tirelessly to restore integrity to our nationβs immigration system to bring an end to the carnage and unnecessary suffering in this country thatβs caused by criminal illegal aliens, and we wonβt rest until weβve accomplished that mission.β
