Please, praying for the Tulare County Sheriff's Office deputy who was shot in the line of duty this morning.🙏🏻

DEVELOPING: Residents are being asked to avoid the area after an officer-involved shooting Thursday morning in Porterville, California.

The Porterville Police Department says the scene is on Brian Lane, near Pioneer Avenue and Newcomb Street.

Witnesses say they saw a man with a rifle and dressed in camouflage and that shots are still being fired at law enforcement.

More details will be provided as they become available.

The Lawrence Kansas Police Department has announced the off-duty death of Officer Zachary Garcia-Kerns, who had served the department since October 2021. The family’s wishes that no additional details are to be released at this time. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office  is handling the investigation, and authorities say no foul play is suspected.

Central Division and the CHP Central Division have received hundreds of complaints and reports regarding issues in the area of Francisco St and 9th St near the 110 freeway.  Due to violent encounters and acts of crime, a team was gathered to address the issues. 

Citations were issued and the subjects present were put on notice that any further criminal behavior will be addressed immediately.

North Carolina: Uptown horse crash.

CMPD arrested Desmon and Deven Moore in connection with this incident.

A warning- the video above is hard to watch. It shows the horse running into the 7th and College intersection and getting hit by a car. CMPD tells Joe Bruno the horse was okay in the immediate aftermath of the incident. It is unclear, however, if the horse suffered any internal injuries and what its current condition is.

The police report says this happened Saturday around 11:36 p.m. The report says Desmon and Deven Moore became "very irate and started screaming and cussing in the street" when CMPD responded to the animal struck call.

The affidavit for Deven Moore says Moore tried to fight another man for remarks made after the accident and he tried to push past officers to fight him. It says Deven Moore began to curse, push and fight officers. He was charged with resist/delay/ and obstruct and disorderly conduct.

The affidavit for Desmon Moore says Moore attempted to grab his brother, Deven, from officers. When officers then attempted to arrest Desmon for this, the affidavit says Desmon yelled and cursed at them and there was a struggle to put him into cuffs. Police also say he started to "physically resist" as a search was being done and he refused to provide officers his name. He is also being charged with disorderly conduct and resist, delay and obstruction.

Magistrate Freddie Brown set Deven Moore's bond at $1K secured, which he posted and was released. Magistrate Robert Gardner set Desmon Moore's bond at $1,500 unsecured. This doesn't require payment in order to be released.

Hunt Saenz reported on Desmon Moore after he was convicted in 2022 of illegally selling firearms including ghost guns and machine guns. He was sentenced to 37 months in prison. BOP records say he was not in custody as of July 30, 2024.

BREAKING UPDATE: Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux confirms a Tulare County Sheriff's Office detective was shot and killed during a confrontation in Porterville, California.

Deputies were serving an eviction notice near Brian Lane and Newcomb Street around 10:20 a.m. Thursday when shots were fired.

Authorities say the suspect, identified as David Morales, born in 1966, is barricaded inside the home and believed to be armed with a high-powered rifle, with multiple shots exchanged.

One deputy was struck and taken to Sierra View Medical Center in Porterville following a tactical rescue but later died.

Sheriff Boudreaux says they considered using a medivac helicopter to transport the detective to the trauma center at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, but the deputy's condition was deemed too volatile for air transport.

Preparations are underway for a procession of the deputy's body from Sierra View Medical Center to the Tulare County Coroner's Office.

TCSO Deputy Killed in the Line of Duty, Residents Urged to Shelter in Place

Sheriff Boudreaux is devastated to announce the loss of a Tulare County Sheriff’s Office Deputy, after he was shot and killed this morning in Porterville.

Around 10:20 a.m. on 4/9/26, TCSO Deputies were in the area Newcomb and Grand in Porterville serving an eviction notice, when 60-year-old David Morales opened fire on them, hitting one TCSO Deputy.

The Deputy was rushed to a local hospital, where we are heartbroken to confirm, he passed away.

Right now, Deputies are still on scene, as Morales is outstanding and shots are still being fired.

Sheriff Boudreaux wants to urge anyone in that area to shelter in place. All schools in the area are also lockdown.

Sheriff Boudreaux has met with the fallen Deputy’s family and offered his deepest condolences. All of us at the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office are shocked and incredibly saddened by today’s tragic events. We ask that you keep our Deputy’s grieving family in your prayers.🙏🏻
