Today, we stood alongside our brothers and sisters in law enforcement to honor a fallen Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Deputy Levi Vargas.

Deputy Vargas tragically passed away after suffering a medical emergency while participating in the 2026 Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay over the weekend.

As the procession moved through the valley, officers from across Southern Nevada paid their respects—standing united in remembrance, service, and sacrifice.

Deputy Vargas, 30, served with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department since 2015. He began his career as a Custody Assistant before graduating from Academy Class 413 and serving in multiple assignments, most recently at San Dimas Station.

He was known among his colleagues and friends for his professionalism, commitment, and compassion for the communities he served.

Deputy Vargas is survived by his wife, parents, siblings, and extended family.

Authorities have identified the deputy killed in Friday night’s shooting as Cumberland County NC Sheriff’s Office Captain Adam Bean, a 20-year veteran who began his service in 2006. Deputies responded just before 11 p.m. and found Captain Bean suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say the preliminary investigation points to a domestic disturbance involving two off-duty law enforcement officers.

Karen Selena Hill, a retired NYPD officer and proud 9/11 first responder, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, at 58 after a brave battle with breast cancer linked to her service at Ground Zero.

Born on December 17, 1967, in Brooklyn, Karen joined the NYPD and responded to the World Trade Center attacks as part of an accelerated "9/11 class." She later served in the 103rd and 111th Precincts in Queens with unwavering dedication.

A loving mother to Quadina F. Hill and Sabrina M. Levy, Karen instilled love, faith, and strength in her family. She was also a devoted member of True North Community Church.

Karen is survived by her daughters, brother Keith Hill, and sister Kimberly Hill.

ICYMI: Three people were killed and six were injured in a three-vehicle crash on Silverado Trail in Napa County on Saturday morning, when a car sideswiped a SUV going the opposite direction, the CHP said. Three women were identified as victims killed.
