On March 24, Gwinnett County Police officers responded to a report of a missing 8-year-old child with autism spectrum disorder who is nonverbal. This is the type of call that no family ever wants to make and one that officers never want to receive. Officers learned the child had run out of the home and was missing. Like many children with autism, the child is drawn to water. With a body of water nearby, officers and the family knew it was critical to cover as much ground as possible in a short amount of time.
Officers quickly dispersed throughout the area, and multiple members of the community stepped up to help with the search. Master Police Officer J. Serrano #2031 positioned his patrol vehicle on the bridge on Steve Reynolds Boulevard overlooking the water while community members searched the nearby wooded area. A short time later, the child was heard crying out and was located clinging to a branch in the water. MPO Serrano and a civilian immediately entered the water and rescued the child.
The child was reunited with their family, evaluated on scene by Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services, and transported to a local hospital due to concerns about hypothermia. Thankfully, the child did not suffer any serious injuries. A quick response, teamwork, and a community that was willing to jump in and help made all the difference in this situation.
For questions about resources available to those with family members with autism spectrum disorder β including how to add the person to Loganβs List, which gives important information to first respondersβ please reach out to Gwinnett County Police Behavioral Health Unit at PDBehavioralHealthUnit@gwinnettcounty.comor 770.513.5436.

WATCH LIVE: President Donald J. Trump delivers remarks to farmers and ranchers
POTUS: "Very special thanks to the proud young parents of two beloved American institutions, Future Farmers of America, and 4-H."
POTUS lists some of the many wins secured for farmers in his first year back in office:
β Farm income up 20%
β Repealed the Biden EPAβs ridiculous water restrictions
β Made the small business tax deduction permanent
β Farmers can now deduct 100% of equipment costs in the first year
POTUS: "Thanks to our trade deals, you're now sending over $40B in American soybeans to China... American soybeans are now being shipped to China in record amounts."
POTUS: "To further help farmers recovering from the Biden catastrophe, we used money taken from tariffs...we gave you $12B in farm relief...I'm also asking Congress to quickly pass the new Farm Bill. And today, I'm promising to request additional farm relief for our great patriots in the next funding bill."
New Jersey vegetable farmer Joel Viereck thanks POTUS for standing up for the American farmer: "We appreciate the bridge payments, your policy on trade β everything, it's going to help strengthen what we do."
POTUS: "We had a ridiculous Washington restriction β the so-called 'Diesel Exhaust Fluid' requirement... Today, we're announcing new guidelines drastically limiting these ridiculous DEF rules, saving farmers and consumers billions and billions of dollars."
"To help lower gasoline prices for farmers and consumers, this week, I issued an emergency order to allow immediate sales of E-15 β and just as I promised in the campaign, I'm seeking Congressional action to allow E-15 all-year-round."
"I'm pleased to announce that the SBA is opening up massive new loan guarantees to farmers and food suppliers."
POTUS announces an update to the renewable fuel standards for 2026-2027:
"We'll now be requiring the highest volumes of renewable fuels in history... these new standards will generate over $10B of rural economic benefit, create an estimated 100,000 new jobs..."
Pennsylvania rancher Michael Cliver: "The work that you guys have done, itβs unexplainable how big it is for the American farmer, and the next generation that donβt have to headache, and donβt have to worry about the Death Tax... Itβs absolutely spectacular."
