17 months ago a Santa Monica Police Officer was stabbed in an unprovoked attack outside the police station.  Has safety improved?  Sense of safety and accountability has diminished, which is why UNREPORTED crime is up. 

In Santa Monica, "PUBLIC SAFETY" now means constructing more concrete barrier bike lanes, reducing parking spaces, and reducing funding for SMPD officers on the streets.
