Officer Malek is survived by his daughter Samantha and his mother Laila.

NEW: ERO San Francisco arrested Marcos Valdovinos-Rodriguez, 26, of Mexico, March 16.  Valdovinos served a year in jail for DUI and evading a peace officer. He also served four years in prison for inflicting corporal injury on his spouse. He was removed to Mexico March 17.

Michigan: Canton police rescued the driver and passengers from a semi that caught on fire due to an SUV traveling at high speeds, colliding with it at an intersection.

Canton Township Police Chief Joseph Bialy said, "Our responding officers quickly took action, going into the fire and removing all of the occupants from the vehicles."

All 5 people involved in the wreck and 4 police officers who were admitted into the hospital are expected to survive.

After more than 25 years of dedicated service, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office recognizes the retirement of Deputy Brian Harris and K9 Ava.

During his career, Deputy Harris served across many divisions within our office, including Detention, House Arrest, the Training Division, and Patrol, as well as 14 years with the WCSO K9 Unit. In that time, he helped develop and guide the program through his leadership, experience, and commitment to preparing both deputies and K9 teams for the demands of the job.

K9 Ava faithfully served alongside Deputy Harris for six years, helping ensure the safety of our deputies, partner agencies, and the community. Beyond her work in the field, Ava became a beloved presence in our community.

“Deputy Harris has been an integral part of the success of our K9 program for more than a decade. His dedication to training, mentorship, and service has left a lasting legacy within this office,” said Sheriff Darin Balaam. “K9 Ava has been an outstanding partner and a true ambassador for our agency, earning the admiration of our community. They will both be greatly missed.”

Missouri: A Camden County deputy has been severely injured after chasing a man wanted for an alleged crime on Sunday, March 1.

According to online court dockets filed on Tuesday, March 17, Marc Lawrence, born in 1992, of Camdenton, has been charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest by fleeing – creating a substantial risk of serious injury or death to any person and with first-degree property damage.

The statement reports that Lawrence jumped over guide wires into the median that separates westbound and eastbound lanes as several vehicles were going at a high rate of speed.
As deputies tried to clear the same guide wire, the same deputy who Lawrence had allegedly almost landed on got tangled in the wires, who was heard screaming in pain and then seen lying on the ground.
Law enforcement eventually caught up to Lawrence in a parking lot after he stopped running and lifted his hands in the air.
The deputy was reported to have been transported and admitted for medical care due to a severe injury to his left leg and knee, with his final diagnosis at the time of statement being undetermined. Please join us in sending prayers and, or positive thoughts for his recovery🙏🏻

Due to anti-law enforcement hostility and retaliation, he asked to remain anonymous. But he spoke candidly about a wide range of topics, including the shocking problems with retirements and recruits, Somali fraud, cars that have been stolen more than a few times, and more. 

However, he says, it was the politics of city hall—preventing cooperation with federal law enforcement and compromising public safety during Operation Metro Surge—that was the final straw for him.

Texas: The Harris County Sheriff's Office says a deputy is recovering from an overnight crash involving a suspected drunk driver.

According to the sheriff's office, the crash happened on the feeder road of the North Beltway near Imperial Valley at 12:30 a.m. Monday.
