WATCH LIVE: VP JD Vance speaks to the International Association of Fire Fighters.
VP: "Everybody deserves public safety, not just rich people...and what I admire about this spirit of public service that exists in this community is that every single one of you put on a uniform and make it possible for kids like meβkids who didnβt grow up with a silver spoon in their mouth, to have access to that critical public safety and security in their neighborhoods."
"A couple of times, I was one of those scared little kids who had to call the firefighters, who had to call the EMTs."
VP shares a personal story of first responders coming to his mother's rescue during her battle with addiction.
VP: "We have actually backed up the pride, and the support, and the gratitude that we have for all of you with very meaningful action."
VP Vance thanks firefighters:
βI want your service to be rewarded by living in a country where you don't have to be rich or lucky to obtain the American Dream...all of us in this administration are proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with you as we rebuild the United States.βπΊπΈ

Employee Spotlight: Gaylord Trooper Promoted to Captain in the Army National Guard
OTSEGO COUNTY, MI. The Michigan State Police (MSP) Gaylord Post is proud to announce the promotion of James Everidge to the rank of Captain in the Army National Guard.
Trooper Everidge is a native of Woodhaven, Michigan. He enlisted in the Army National Guard as a cadet in 2016, originally planning to serve full-time in the Army. That changed during an internship at the MSP Brighton Post, where he observed troopers diligently investigating a case involving the sexual assault of a minor. From that moment, he knew he wanted to become a trooper to help bring justice to victims of such crimes and serve the citizens of Michigan in that capacity.
He began his career with the MSP in 2018 as a member of the 135th Trooper Recruit School. His first assignment was at the MSP Alpena Post, where he served as a trooper for four years before transferring to the MSP Gaylord Post, where he currently serves.
Trooper Everidge started the Reserve Officersβ Training Corps (ROTC) at Eastern Michigan University and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 2018. He was promoted to First Lieutenant in 2020 and to Captain in January 2026.
Trooper Everidge encourages MSP members interested in the Army National Guard to pursue the opportunity. βItβs a great place to work, you can excel in leadership, and there are many opportunities to serve the communities in Michigan,β said Trooper Everidge.
βTrooper Everidge serves our country honorably, and we are privileged to have him as a leader within the ranks of MSP,β said Lt. Ashley Miller.
Congratulations on your promotion, Trooper Everidge.

I just spoke to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, of Australia, concerning the Iranian National Womenβs Soccer Team. Heβs on it! Five have already been taken care of, and the rest are on their way. Some, however, feel they must go back because they are worried about the safety of their families, including threats to those family members if they donβt return. In any event, the Prime Minister is doing a very good job having to do with this rather delicate situation. God bless Australia! President DONALD J. TRUMP
