STATEMENT FROM THE AURORA POLICE DEPARTMENT, ILLINOIS.
"On February 9, 2026, beginning at approximately 11:50 a.m., Aurora Police officers were deployed throughout the city in response to multiple coordinated student walkouts occurring at several local schools. Officers worked in coordination with school administrators to encourage students to remain in class or return to campus while maintaining a visible but measured presence as groups began leaving school grounds and moving into nearby neighborhoods and along primary roadways. As students gathered and traveled together, officers provided repeated verbal direction intended to keep participants out of traffic and reduce the potential for conflicts or unsafe conditions.
As the afternoon progressed, approximately 1,500 students from several area schools walked toward the downtown area and City Hall. During this time, portions of the crowd began disregarding officersβ directions by entering traffic lanes, blocking vehicles, and walking into oncoming traffic along Lake Street and surrounding corridors. Additional safety concerns developed as fights broke out within the group, water bottles were thrown at police vehicles, and reckless driving activity emerged near areas where students had gathered. In response to these escalating conditions, APD coordinated additional resources and implemented a plan to restore safe movement in the area while continuing efforts to gain voluntary compliance.
Officers later made contact with two individuals whose actions were contributing to the unsafe conditions. When officers attempted to detain and identify them, resistance occurred and both were taken into custody. During the encounter, a third student intervened and punched an officer in the head, causing a laceration. The injured officer was transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
Three male juveniles from East Aurora High School were charged with improper walking in the roadway, obstructing, and resisting a peace officer. One of the juveniles was additionally charged with aggravated battery to a police officer. Following the enforcement action, the remaining students gradually dispersed and normal traffic conditions were restored.
While we recognize and support every individualβs right to protest, the Aurora Police Department reminds those exercising these rights that they must still comply with the laws in place to keep everyone safe and to allow for peaceful, meaningful dialogue. Actions that place others in danger are not acceptable, and the Aurora Police Department remains committed to maintaining safety and order for all residents of our city."

The subject ATTEMPTED to ESCAPE custody.
On January 8, 2026, ICE conducted a targeted enforcement operation to arrest Alberto Castaneda-Mondragon, a 31-year-old illegal alien from Mexico who overstayed his visa.
While in handcuffs, Castaneda attempted to ESCAPE custody and ran toward a main highway. While running, Castaneda fell and hit his head against a concrete wall. Once officers regained custody Castaneda, they called for an ambulance to examine the illegal alien. Castaneda DECLINED medical services and stated he was uninjured. Officers notified the medical team at the processing facility about the incident, and Castaneda was then admitted to the Hennepin County Medical Center for his head injury.
Resisting officers and evading arrest is dangerous for our officers, illegal aliens, and the public β it is also a felony and a federal crime. Sanctuary politicians need to stop encouraging this dangerous behavior that puts our officers and the public at risk.

LOWEST MURDER RATE SINCE 1900.
Under the leadership of President Trump, the murder rate has plunged to a 125-year low β with especially steep drops in cities where the DHS law enforcement undertook targeted immigration enforcement and crime prevention operations. Our nation has also experienced a steep decline in fentanyl deaths, which have dropped over 30%.
President Trump is saving millions of lives. We are not going back to how things used to be!
