Georgia: A Douglas County deputy was hospitalized Sunday morning after a driver failed to move over and slammed into two police vehicles on an Interstate 20 ramp.
The crash happened around 4:45 a.m. while a Georgia State Patrol trooper was assisting Douglas County deputies on the ramp from I-20 West to Riverside Parkway in Cobb County. The officers were investigating a previous chase that had ended when deputies used a PIT maneuver to stop a suspect.
According to the GSP, the police cars were stationary with their emergency lights on when a 2015 Kia Forte drove up to the scene. The driver of the Kia failed to slow down or move over, first sideswiping a Douglas County Sheriffโs Office SUV and then rear-ending the trooperโs patrol car.
Both the deputy and the trooper were inside their vehicles at the time of the impact.
The deputy was transported to WellStar Douglas Hospital with reported injuries. The trooper reported feeling discomfort but declined medical treatment at the scene.
Please join us in sending prayers and, or positive thoughts for the officers recovery๐๐ป

Today we Honor Memphis Police Officer Robert Hester who was beaten, tortured, and murdered after being taken hostage; EOW 1/12/1983.
On Jan 11th Hester and his partner Ray Schwill were lured to a house at 2239 Shannon Ave. responding to a report of a purse snatching. When Officer Hester and his partner arrived, they entered the house and were jumped by a group of 13 agitated men. As the pair tried to escape the house, the group attacked them. One suspect was able to gain control of Schwillsโ gun and shot him in the face. Schwill escaped by jumping through the front window, but Hester was captured.
The first officers arriving attempted to enter and save Hester. Officer Russ Aiken emptied his service revolver and after reloading twice his revolver was empty. He exited and retrieved a shotgun and entered again exchanging fire with the occupants who by this time were armed with two 38 caliber revolvers. Responding officers were unable to reach Officer Hester. Six of the original thirteen suspects escaped the house as other officers arrived but were all captured.
A 30-hour stand-off began. Negotiation teams were unsuccessful in securing the release of Hester. During the standoff the suspects used Officer Hesterโs radio to broadcast his pleas for help as he was beaten with a flashlight and gun. At 0300 hours on January 13, the house went quiet.
Tactical Officers attempted to rescue Hester by firing tear gas cartridges and flash grenades into the house. As Tact Unit Officers breached the door they were fired upon. Officers returned fire with M-16 rifles and shotguns killing the seven remaining suspects. Tact Unit officers recovered Hester in the back room of the house, but it was too late. Officer Hester had been beaten to death 12 hours before the Tact Unit made entry.
Robert Hester was a Vietnam War veteran.

The Long Beach Police, California, opened its newly renovated police academy yesterday afternoon. That renovation cost about $33 Million and began back in 2023.
Some of the upgrades include new classrooms, locker rooms, a fitness center and conference rooms.
Nearly 100 new Long Beach police recruits will be welcomed to the new campus Monday morning, for what will be the start of the departmentโs largest ever academy class.
Phase 2 of the academyโs expansion will begin later this year.
