Prayers for the Lake County Sheriff's deputy who was seriously injured in the line of duty tonight.🙏🏻

Indiana: A deputy with the Lake County Sheriff's Department is in the hospital after a head-on collision with a suspect vehicle during a police chase.

Just after 6 p.m. Wednesday, a vehicle pursuit was initiated between a suspect vehicle and law enforcement in Gary, Indiana. The suspect vehicle was heading northbound at a high rate of speed. At 9th Avenue, the suspect vehicle struck a Lake County deputy’s vehicle head-on.
The deputy is being treated at an area hospital for multiple cuts and injuries.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was placed in custody and taken to an area hospital for evaluation. A passenger in the suspect vehicle was extricated by fire personnel and transported to an area hospital.

JUST IN: The Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department has announced that Officer Terry Bennett has passed away from his injuries after being struck by a vehicle in the line of duty on December 23rd, 2025. Bennett was an 8-year veteran of the department.

“Officer Bennett was a model officer, a born and raised Washingtonian who wanted to make a positive impact on his community," said interim Chief of Police Jeffery Carroll.
