Number of police officers killed in line of duty hits level not seen in 80 years.
In 2025, the number of U.S. police officers killed in the line of duty dropped to 111, reaching levels not seen since 1943. Firearm-related fatalities fell 15%, to 44, while traffic-related deaths declined nearly 23%. The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund cited improved roadside safety measures as a key factor in the decline.
However, the number of officers shot on duty rose slightly, from 342 in 2024 to 347 in 2025. Other causes of death, including medical emergencies and stabbings, also decreased by 37%.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi: βTo make our economy great, we have to be safe in our country. These narco-terrorists, which is what they are, they were importing hundreds of tons of cocaine into our country, killing our kids, killing thousands of Americans, every single yearβ¦ Maduro emptied his prisons. He emptied insane asylums and let those people come into our country during the last administration, and President Trump stopped it.β

Tucker Carlson Tonight 01/06/2021: Capitol Hill Chaos. You may have nothing in common with people on the other side of the country. Increasingly, you probably donβt. The idea that groups of Americans will somehow break off into separate nations of like-minded people β that is fantasy. There is no such thing as a peaceful separation. The two hemispheres of this country are inseparably intertwined. They are co-joined twins. Neither can leave without killing the other. So thatβs the first thing to know: as awful as this moment is, we have no option but to make it better. The second thing to consider is why the woman who was killed today went to the rally in the first place. We donβt know anything about her, but she didnβt look particularly radical. She bore no resemblance to the angry children weβve seen wreck our cities recently. The woman in the Capitol hallway looked pretty much like everyone else. So why was she there? Why were any of them there today? We ought to think about that.

SCOOP: The suspect arrested for murdering off-duty deputy at Austinβs North Lamar nightclub is Thomas Vences β a repeat offender with four active felony warrants and 32 charges.
Vences was already a wanted fugitive when he allegedly shot Caldwell County Deputy Aaron Armstrong, who was working security at Club Rodeo early Sunday.
Vencesβs 20-year record with Austin prosecutors:
β’ 38 total charges (including 6 today)
β’ 8 vehicle burglaries
β’ 2 home burglaries
β’ 2 felony family violence assaults
β’ 2 felony evading arrests with a vehicle (both reduced)
β’ 3 felonies reduced to misdemeanors
β’ 20 plea deals
β’ Every probation revoked
β’ 0 jury trials
Vences had been on the run since June after skipping court on a second-degree felony home burglary, two family violence cases, and a criminal trespass β all while already on probation for a prior home burglary.
U.S. Marshals arrested him Sunday afternoon with help from APD and DPS.
Thomas Vences cycled through Austin's courts for two decades. He exposed his violence again and again. Walked out every time.
Heβs been charged with capital murder of a peace officer and is being held on a $2,500 bond.
Prosecutors had 32 chances to stop him.
Now a deputy is dead.
