In other news: Authorities are investigating after a Metro bus crashed into a utility pole in the Lake View Terrace area of Los Angeles.
Aerial footage from AIR7 showed the orange Metro bus over the sidewalk with a large utility pole on its roof.
LAFD says there were no passengers aboard the bus at the time of the collision.

Prayers for the Conyers Police officer who was injured in the line of duty this afternoon.🙏🏻
Georgia: Conyers Police Department said an officer was hurt after being dragged during a traffic stop, prompting a multi-agency search and a pursuit that ended with the suspect’s arrest on Interstate 20.
CPD said an officer attempted to stop a Nissan SUV along Sigman Road near Voices of Faith. During the stop, the driver fought with the officer and then drove off, dragging him.
Other officers rushed to help and found the officer injured on the ground. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately released.
The suspect fled the scene, but investigators used the department’s real-time crime center and FLOCK license plate reader cameras to locate the vehicle.
Law enforcement officers tracked the suspect to I-20, where a pursuit ended after officers performed a PIT maneuver, causing the SUV to crash.
Police said no one was hurt during the maneuver.
The driver was taken into custody.

“Our primary responsibility is the preservation of life,” said Sheriff Shannon Dicus. “Closing these trails is a necessary step to mitigate ongoing risks. We urge the community to respect these boundaries.”
A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.
The Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Forest Service express their deepest gratitude to the community for its cooperation during this difficult time. Today we remember a true hero, Lieutenant Michael Walker. We lost Lieutenant Walker 20 years ago when he was struck and killed by a vehicle while at the scene of an earlier crash on State Highway 17 near Santa Cruz.
A Caltrans employee was also struck and seriously injured by the vehicle when the driver lost control at approximately 10:15 p.m. The driver of the vehicle was killed in the crash.
Lieutenant Walker is survived by his wife, two daughters, and three brothers. EOW 12/31/2005
It’s projected to be raining for the next few days. If you have to drive, please slow down, activate your lights and windshield wipers, and leave plenty of space between vehicles.
Lastly, if you plan to celebrate tonight for New Year’s, please think twice and don’t drink and drive. You can save a life.

We regret to pass on that a Christopher, Illinois (SE of St Louis) Firefighter was killed in the Line of Duty this morning.
Initial reports are that Firefighter Kody Van Fossan died in the Line of Duty in a fire with collapse, and his father (a fellow firefighter) was reportedly injured in the fire as well.
