The City of Los Angeles adopted a homelessness budget of about $1.3 billion per year from 2023-2024. A separate independent audit (commissioned by a federal judge in early 2025) reviewed $2.4 billion in city funding and found it "nearly impossible" to track where much of it went. In addition to that, Santa Monicaβs annual spending on homelessness programs and services has been reported at roughly $40 β $43 million per year; roughly 1/3rd of the budget for the Police Department. Someone needs to investigate this further.
