While on duty, deputies responded to a welfare check and found this pup alone inside a shed behind an abandoned, deteriorating home. Without hesitation, they provided water, comfort, and coordinated with animal services to make sure the dog was safely rescued and cared for.
Moments like this remind us that protecting our communities also means protecting those who cannot speak for themselves. We are proud of the compassion and professionalism shown by these deputies.

Whatβs better than a brother-sister duo?
Yesterday was a special day at the Jefferson County Sheriffβs Office. Deputy Griggs from Session 55 had the honor of welcoming his sister, Deputy Staten, into the JCSO family.
What makes it even more special is that theyβre both following in the footsteps of their uncle, Lieutenant Williams. Itβs amazing to see this legacy continue and to witness the strong bonds that family can create within a community service role.

OFF-DUTY LEXINGTON NC POLICE OFFICER KILLED IN SHOOTING
It is with a heavy heart that we share the details of a horrific tragedy. A little after 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17, off-duty Lexington Police Officer Kaitlin Crook was shot and killed.
Lexington Police Chief Robby Rummage has asked the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) to lead the investigation. While the investigation is ongoing and there are many things we donβt know yet, we want to be as transparent as possible while respecting the investigation.
Last night, Lexington Police responded to 911 calls about shots fired. First responders arrived a short time later and began life-saving measures, but tragically, Officer Crook was pronounced dead at the scene. Two men were also found with gunshot wounds:
β’ Zachary Rogers: An off-duty Lexington Firefighter and the estranged husband of Officer Crook. He is in critical condition at the hospital. A handgun believed to be his was recovered at the scene.
β’ Joshua Moore: A resident of Thomasville, NC. We believe Mr. Moore was Officer Crookβs current boyfriend. He is in stable condition at the hospital and is expected to recover. A handgun believed to be his was also recovered at the scene.
Neither Officer Crook nor Zachary Rogers were on-duty at the time. All three people knew each other, and we donβt believe anyone else was involved. We wonβt know anything else for certain until the NCSBI investigation is complete.
βThere are no words that can adequately capture the weight of what so many people are feeling during this terrible and devastating time,β said Lexington Police Chief Robby D. Rummage. βLosing a police officer is every chiefβs worst nightmare. My heart is heavy, and my prayers are with everyone touched by this tragedy. We will continue to lean on one another, in support of each other, and get through this together.β
βThis incident is a profound tragedy that deeply affects the public safety family in the City of Lexington as well as all City employees, the Lexington community and beyond,β said Lexington Fire Chief Michael R. Tofano. βOur hearts are heavy with grief.β
Both the Lexington Police Department and the Lexington Fire Department have made counseling and support available to their employees.
We simply have to wait for the NCSBI investigation to answer remaining questions. We ask for the community's prayers and patience during this difficult time.ππ»
Rest Easy Sister. Prayers for her family of blue and blood.ππ»

Assault a Border Patrol agent. Thatβs the move? Really?
During enforcement operations, an illegal alien from Mexico chose violence, shattering an agentβs vehicle window. Then came the predictable part: a short, unimpressive attempt to flee. It ended exactly how it always does, with the subject in cuffs and in custody.
Letβs clear something up for anyone still confused. Assaulting our agents isnβt brave. It isnβt political. And it certainly isnβt misunderstood. Itβs criminal and you will end up behind bars.
And for context, this wasnβt a first-time lapse in judgment. The subject has an extensive criminal and immigration history, including inadmissibility, possession of a controlled substance, and aggravated assault.
