WATCH: Police officials are expected to provide an update this afternoon on the condition of Sgt. Erik LeVasseur, the Port St. Lucie officer who was shot twice in the face while on the job. Last we heard from officials, LeVasseur was undergoing a third surgeryโฆ
Update on Sgt. Levasseur:
Port St. Lucie, FL: The Port St. Lucie Police Department is providing an update on the condition of our sergeant, Erik Levasseur, who was critically injured during the officer-involved shooting that occurred on December 1st, 2025.
On Tuesday (December 9th, 2025), surgeons successfully removed additional remains from a bullet discovered during evaluation. The bullet shrapnel was lodged deeper than initially expected, but the procedure went well. Sergeant Levasseur is awake, alert, and remains at the Trauma Intensive Care Unit (TICU) located at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, where he continues to receive exceptional medical care.
Currently, he is awaiting further consultation regarding potential reconstructive surgery on his face. His eyes have sustained significant trauma, and while he currently has no vision, doctors advise that it will take time, healing, and potential future procedures, including eye surgeriesโto better determine his long-term prognosis.
Medical staff have confirmed there are no concerns of brain damage and his tracheostomy remains in place in preparation for any additional surgeries that may be required.
Despite these challenges, Sergeant Levasseur is fully aware ofโand deeply moved byโthe tremendous outpouring of support from his coworkers and community. The strength of this community continues to encourage him and his family every day.
We ask the public to continue keeping our sergeant, his loved ones, and our department in their thoughts and prayers as his recovery journey continues. Additional updates will be shared as appropriate.
On behalf of the Levasseur family, PSLPD would like to thank all those who have contributed, supported and donated to his recovery. It has been a beautiful outpour and an overwhelming response from the community. We would also like to thank all who are currently involved in preparing Sgt. Levasseurโs home for his eventual release from medical treatment. This future planning is providing a guiding light to his spirit and momentum.

โBut as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.โ
