Please, pray for the Chicago Police officer who was injured in the line of duty overnight.🙏🏻

A Chicago police officer was taken to a nearby hospital after an attempted traffic stop on Chicago's South Side Wednesday, CPD said.

Officers driving in a marked squad car saw a gray sedan commit a traffic violation in the 5700-block of South State Street just before 8:30 p.m., CPD said.

When officers approached the vehicle, it drove north, hitting an officer on the foot, police said.

The officer was taken to Insight Hospital & Medical Center in fair condition.

The suspect vehicle later rear-ended another in the 2600-block of South State Street, police said.

The driver was taken into custody, and taken to a hospital in good condition.

The passenger in the suspect vehicle, was taken into custody, and taken to a nearby hospital in good condition.

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved K9 Kirby.

Yesterday, while undergoing medical tests, K9 Kirby unexpectedly passed away. He passed with his devoted handler, Victim Advocate Marisa, by his side.

Kirby joined our office in 2020 as our third Courtroom Facility Dog, serving primarily in the desert division. In his years with us, he brought comfort, calm, and courage to countless victims and staff alike. His gentle and presence made the hardest days a little easier for so many.

Just four weeks ago, Kirby was celebrated for his dedicated service as he entered retirement. Though his time as a retiree was brief, it was filled with love, rest, and the warmth of his family.

Kirby was more than a working dog, he was a cherished member of our team and our hearts. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

💙🐾 Rest easy, sweet Kirby.
