BREAKING: DOJ charges Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) with stealing $5 million in FEMA funds, laundering the proceeds, and then using the money to support her 2021 Congressional campaign. She faces up to 53 years in prison if convicted.

According to the indictment, DOJ says:

“Cherfilus-McCormick, 46, and her brother Edwin Cherfilus, 51, both of Miramar, worked through their family health-care company on a FEMA-funded COVID-19 vaccination staffing contract in 2021. In July 2021, the company received an overpayment of $5 million in FEMA funds.

The indictment alleges that the defendants conspired to steal that $5 million and routed it through multiple accounts to disguise its source. Prosecutors allege that a substantial portion of the misappropriated funds was used as candidate contributions to Cherfilus-McCormick’s 2021 congressional campaign and for the personal benefit of the defendants.

The indictment further alleges that Cherfilus-McCormick and Nadege Leblanc, 46, of Miramar, arranged additional contributions using straw donors, funneling other monies from the FEMA-funded Covid-19 contract to friends and relatives who then donated to the campaign as if using their own money.

The indictment also charges Cherfilus-McCormick and her 2021 tax preparer David K. Spencer, 41, of Davie, with conspiring to file a false federal tax return. According to the indictment, they falsely claimed political spending and other personal expenses as business deductions and inflated charitable contributions in order to reduce her tax obligations.”

A Prince William County police officer is recovering tonight after a suspect took off with the officer on the trunk of a stolen car.

Police say one of their officers spotted a black car with stolen plates, confronted the driver and through the course of their interaction, the driver took off with the officer physically on top of the trunk of the car.

The officer fell off during the getaway, thankful to be alive, only suffered a busted lip.

"He’s good, sustained a busted lip but thankfully, nothing more than that," said Lieutenant Jonathan Perok, Prince William County Police Department. He’s doing OK.

A Corsicana ISD officer was injured after accidentally discharging a firearm on campus on Wednesday morning, according to the district.

The incident happened at Bowie Elementary at about 9:20 a.m.

A district police officer was injured, and emergency medical personnel responded to provide care.

Corsicana ISD confirmed the officer was authorized to carry a firearm on school property, and no students or campus staff were present in the room with the officer when the discharge occurred.

DEVELOPING: Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman on Wednesday announced an investigation into alleged fraudsters who he says submitted false claims of child sex abuse in order to claim a chunk of settlement money

New details are emerging after a car chase in Porterville ended in a fiery crash that left one person dead, another hospitalized, and a Tulare County Sheriff’s deputy injured.

The crash also destroyed a family’s home, leaving the Ramirez family displaced.

The pursuit began when deputies attempted to pull over a stolen car.
The driver refused to stop and intentionally crashed into a deputy’s vehicle during the chase.
The car eventually slammed into another sheriff’s patrol car before crashing into a nearby home and catching fire.

Inside the home, the Ramirez family who escaped just in time.

Authorities say there were two people in the car involved in the chase.

One person died at the scene, while the other was taken to the hospital, with their condition currently unknown.

The sheriff’s deputy involved has undergone surgery and is now stable.

JUST IN: Phoenix Arizona fire officials say crews are responding to a partial roof collapse at Desert Sky Mall.

Phoenix fire officials are at Desert Sky Mall after part of the roof of the building collapsed this evening as a severe thunderstorm moved through the area.

The extent of the damage and what areas of the mall were impacted is currently unknown. Officials have not reported any injuries at this time.

The lawsuit alleges that the group’s co-founders–Jared Brown and Patrick Laffin–invited minors to their home for overnight gatherings, provided alcohol to the children, and carried out “repeated acts of sexual assault.”
