Florida: A Winter Haven police officer and another driver were injured in a violent crash on Cypress Gardens Boulevard in the early morning hours of Nov. 2.

According to a news release from the Winter Haven Police Department, the officer was responding to a possible armed disturbance with emergency lights flashing about 2:20 a.m., heading east on Cypress Gardens Boulevard. As the officer entered the intersection with 1st Street South, a 2019 Honda Accord traveling south on 1st Street struck the officer's patrol vehicle.

Winter Haven police said the Accord was traveling "at a high rate of speed." It struck the police Chevy Tahoe on the driver side, sending both vehicles careening to the southeast corner of the intersection near the parking lot of Dutch Bros.

The officer was taken by ambulance to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center. The 21-year-old driver of the Accord, the only person in the car, was taken by helicopter to LRH, police said.

A police officer in Indiana is recovering after being accidentally shot by her partner during a chaotic incident involving a dog.

The event occurred last week in Lafayette, where officers LaFrene Butler and Aaron Wright were investigating at an apartment complex when a large dog broke free from its cage and charged at them, startling Wright and causing him to unintentionally discharge his weapon, according to Lafayette Police Chief Patrick Flannelly. Dramatic body camera footage from the scene captures the fleeting moment that led to the shooting.

Chief Flannelly emphasized that the shooting was accidental and not the result of carelessness. Butler, initially listed in serious condition, is expected to make a full recovery, while the dog involved was unharmed and has since returned home.

Louisiana: A Baton Rouge police officer is recovering after suffering minor injuries during a crash involving an 18-wheeler.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the crash happened just before 7 a.m. on Saturday, November 1.

Investigators said the officer had pulled onto the shoulder of I-12 near Millerville Road and was sitting inside of a marked patrol car. That’s when the 18-wheeler struck the back of the officer’s vehicle.

According to BRPD, the driver of the 18-wheeler may have fallen asleep behind the wheel.

The injured officer was taken to a hospital to get treated.

Florida: One person was arrested and a deputy injured after a vehicle crash Saturday, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

At 6:35 p.m., a deputy was responding to a call at North Street and Delia Street in Wimauma to back up another unit.

The sheriff’s office said the deputy had his lights and siren activated when he collided with a vehicle pulling out of a driveway.
According to deputies, the driver appeared to be intoxicated.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested the driver of the vehicle and charged them with driving under the influence.

The deputy was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
