A Heroβs Sendoff for Officer Kimberley
Today, Madison K9 Officer Ryan Kimberley was sent home from Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital β greeted with cheers, applause, and proud salutes from those who have stood beside him throughout his recovery journey. Staff at the Fitchburg facility lined the halls, and fellow law enforcement officers and first responders from across Dane County formed two long rows outside to give Officer Kimberley a well-deserved heroβs sendoff.
Since being seriously injured on Sept. 27, while assisting Monona Police during a pursuit, Officer Kimberley has faced every challenge with strength and resolve. His K9 partner, Freddie, who also sustained minor injuries, continues to recover under the care of the MPD K9 Unit.
The Madison Police Department and the Kimberley family are deeply grateful for the communityβs overwhelming support. On Monday evening, around 8pm, we were dispatched to a retail theft near the 210 and Campus Avenue. Four adults entered the business, and instead of asking for job applications, grabbed boxes and boxes of fragrance products, then ran to their getaway car.
Officers were already in the area and located the car speeding away on the westbound 210. All in all, four adults from Los Angeles were arrested for felony commercial burglary, organized retail theft, conspiracy, and their ride impounded for a month.
As if stealing isnβt shameful enough, there were also two small children in the car who were ultimately released to family. Nearly $7,500 in merchandise was returned to the business.

Florida Highway Patrol Trooper W.A. βBuddyβ Stewart reading miranda to a robbery and grand theft auto suspect in 1978.
Classic FHP. I knew several troopers who wore crossdraw up until they moved to Berettas in mid 90βs, there were no cages, didnβt call out traffic stops, and didnβt really care to carry a portable even after they got some that worked.
Those old schoolers werenβt scared of much, and much respect for them all!
