Sheriff Kevin McMahill says Las Vegas is experiencing historic reductions:

📉 Officer-Involved Shootings: Down 66% in 2025 (4 compared to 12 YTD in 2024)
📉 Homicides: Down 30% — solvability among the highest in major U.S. cities (91% as of Oct. 19, 2025)
📉 Violent Gun Crime Unit solved 100% of crimes (43) since inception in 2024 (Oct. 29 - Dec. 31, 2024)

💥 Our Violent Gun Crime Unit (VGCU), continues to deliver results:
✅ 194 cases in 2025, 190 solved — a 98% solve rate
✅ 273 firearms recovered and removed in 2024

'HOLE IN OUR HEART': The Polk County community is mourning the loss of a police officer who suddenly and tragically died at her home on Tuesday night.

Angela "Angie" Shurley was a 27-year law enforcement veteran and a beloved member of the Polk County Police Department. She passed away at the age of 53, the department said.

"To know Angie was to love her. Angie was an introverted extrovert who was an absolute joy to be around. Angie was like a mother to many of our officers, who imparted her professional knowledge obtained through her years of service as well as wisdom that she had gained through her 53 years here on Earth. She was a calming voice of reason to all she met."

Rest Easy Sister. Prayers for her family of blue and blood.🙏🏻

She was homeless, pregnant, and searching for hope.

BREAKING: FBI Honolulu, along with federal, state, and local law enforcement and community partners, assisted in the safe location and recoveries of 10 children and youth as part of Operation Shine the Light. In addition, Several arrests were made, child victims were identified and investigations are ongoing. Operation Shine the Light aims to recover endangered missing children and youth reported as “runaways” across O‘ahu, provide them with essential services and care — and to deter bad actors from victimizing missing children.

BREAKING: Alaska Airlines flights grounded due to IT outage.

The ground stop was issued for all Alaska and Horizon Air flights, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Law enforcement officers from across Mississippi surrounded Brashears’ family as they mourned the sudden loss of this father of two at Heritage Funeral Home in Escatawpa. Among the dozens of motorcycles that lead the procession, there were two deputies from South Carolina, where Brashears worked for 13 years.

Deputy Joshua Brashears was laid to rest at Shiloh Cemetery in Vancleave. He is survived by his two children and his parents.
