Officer Franklin served for 12 years and had also served with the U.S. Army National Guard. He is survived by his wife and 4 children.

He designed the rounded tips on our six-pointed star badge to prevent deputies from being cut while riding horseback. In 1886, Aguirre and his horse, El Capitan, courageously saved 19 people from the Los Angeles River during a devastating flood. He helped acquire the Department’s first automobile in 1907, ushering in a new era of modern policing.

As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we honor Sheriff Aguirre and all those whose heritage, service, and values continue to strengthen our Department and community.

NEW: Brentwood gas station owner dresses up dinosaur in Dodgers gear.

The green fiberglass dinosaur, nicknamed Claire by the owners of the Sinclair station in the 13000 block of San Vicente Boulevard, was stolen in late September, according to John Fawcett, who owns the station.
